Default Springfield XD45 or Beretta cougar 8045?

I have been doing research on which one of my 45's to concel. From what I have found online it's seems that the Beretta may be the better gun to carry. Any thoughts besides whats feels good to me?

Thanks

Welcome!

I assume you are looking for a gun for when you get approved for your CCW. I notice you are pending application in San Joaquin, I have heard that is a tough county to pass for a CCW. Keep us updated on how that's going.

As for carry guns. "Shoot and carry what you trust your life with" -Bonovox

XD45 has some issues with the grip safety and people locking up the gun if the grip safety is not ALL THE WAY pressed in.

I don't know anything about the Beretta, except the contour of the frame doesn't fit my hand.

have you looked into a 1911 O-frame gun? check out the threads here on this site and i think you will see what most of us carry for the simple fact that we trust our lives with the gun we carry.

These are two different systems... not really birds of a feather..

The XD is what I have been carrrying since early this am and will get around to taking it off soon... I carry the 5 in. gun and so does my wife... very 1911 like in the "grip" area... The beretta has that safety thingee that you have to learn to insure you take off... not bad... just different... I'd say buy both if the budget will stretch and shoot both alot and then decide which one is your fav...

I think I can speak for most of us on the board... what we started with and what we end up carrying can change alot...alot alot...!

I started with a 6 in. K38, then a 2.5 in colt 357, then a commander 45, then a govt... 38 super.. and on and on and glock and on.....

I know that under the old Sheriff it was pretty tough. I don't know about the new one, but I did go through a pre screening process, and I recieved the paper work the next day. Keeping my fingurers crossed.

Thanks for the replies. I own both already, but looking for holsters it seems like the Beretta has more styles to choose from. Since they are both pretty big (xd like a 1911 & and the cougar is bulky) I was thinking about a small of back holster. But I am worried about that one time that someone may notice it and go for it in a line at a convenient store. Any thoughts?

The Beretta Cougar 8045 will fit into holsters that can carry the Sigs (229, 220, 226). You will appreciate the recoil better because of its rotating barrel. That is a feature unique to the Cougar series. They are both easy to disassemble for cleaning. IMO the Beretta Cougar 8045 is a better pistol. My only reservation is that it is a Beretta, so I don't know if it inherited the locking block problem.

Threatsolutions.com has an IWB holster that I find to be the most comfortable around... also comp-tac sells a variety for both guns... the thickness of the gun can be a problem and you have to adapt your clothing to the problem... If you can wear loose pants and an adjustable belt.. wilderness tactical for instance you are set. If you have to dress more upscale.. the guys on the forum have an opinion or three about the best dress belts. I don't think you can beat milt sparks products, Kramer, tt gunleather has a good rep...

I think you will end up with a drawer full of holsters...like most of us.. and the first one in the drawer is likely to be the SOB holster... most men cannot sit down with one on... I have a client who wears one all day, every day... but he never sits down at work, he stands all of the time... and faces customers... with the gun hidden behind him..... women who wear high -waisted pants (kinda like high capacity magazine only different)... seem to be able to wear the SOB without a problem.. my wife has one for her glock 19... people followed her around the shop she used to work at and drop stuff into the hollow behind the magazine, pencils, change etc.....

The XD 45 is my carry weapon and I love it. Primary carry so far has been in a IWB holster.

Tuck-This!™

OWB if my pants are two tight I have been using.

BLACKHAWK ! *Sportster SERPA Holster

I enjoy having the added retention.

Thumbs up I Can Speak Of The XDs

I alternate between an XD .45 4" Compact and a XD .40 S&W 3" Subcompact in a Comp-Tac MTAC. The .45 is a little more of a concern to CCW because of the girth of the grip. It's pretty stout compared to a single stack, but depending on what I wear it can become a non-issue. Putting the extended magazine in it give it a longer grip and makes it the same as the Service model and requires a little more effort to conceal, but still VERY doable.

With the right shirts (I wear a size larger than my normal) and 2 inches larger waist size pants with a good stiff leather belt, I don't have any real issues carrying the 2 XDs I described, and can even pull off my XD .45 Tactical on occasion, but a 5 inch barrel is just a bit much for me.

I have a TT Gunleather for my XD 45 Compact that is absolutely wonderful.
He even sent me the Kydex clips to turn it into a tuckable and that works great too!

I just bought a Kimber Ultra CDP II and will be ordering a holster for that after taxes get done. Can't recommend TT Gunleather enough, and if you search here, they and Milt Sparks seem to make up the majority of IWBs here.
