The CCW Class/Trainer must be approved by the issuing authority. Many counties have a list on their website of approved trainers.

Example:

https://docs.co.nevada.ca.us/dsweb/G...pplication.pdf

To get back to the OP.

Until you get your fat letter "approval letter" from OCSD PSD. You are putting the cart in front of the the horse.

When/if you receive your fat envelope from OCSD PSD, there will be a list of 3 trainers that are approved to offer the class. Remember per OCSD procedure you should NOT take class before you receive the approval letter from OCSD PSD.

I understand that. All I'm waiting on for my application is letters from my employer and good character references from people. And from everyone I've talked to, I am fairly confident I will be approved and given my work situation (I work weekends) I need to plan ahead and ask for days off. I am just looking to make the process as efficient as possible by having all my ducks in a row before I ever step into PSD.

Once someone is approved. You must then do the livescan. That will take at least 2-3 weeks for the results to be completed. So you will have plenty of time to do the 16hr class while you are waiting for livescan results.

Once you are approved for further processing, the OCSD will send you a packet with the four approved instructors. Choose one of the four. I'd recommend the first one listed on the page. That's the one I trained with. And like he said, you are giving him your business. You are not giving Evan's your business.

It's interesting to me... There are over a dozen people that I know of that have traveled as far as the NorCal boarder to train w/ that "first guy on the list." It used to be that you looked for the guy with the most skill in a field to make your decision. Apparently that doesn't matter anymore.

you are right Buba. and I have seen others call each instructor on the list and go with the cheapest price.

You get what you pay for. I went with the 1st instructor on the list, I learned a whole lot more than what i paid for the class. Was worth every penny! Can't put a price tag on knowledge.

Speaking as one of those trainers on the list... in Kern...(We have more than 3 trainers in our county...and there is alot of competition )
I encourage people to call and talk to the trainer or go into the shop and meet the person. Check out the evironment and ask around. One of the great things about this forum is the opportunity to ask people what they thought of the trainer. I know that I am not the best trainer for certain types of students and would suggest they go somewhere else... Others come to see me every two years... like clockwork, because they really like the family environment we provide... my wife makes cookies for her classes etc...
Most of the instructors will give basic knowledge but if there is a personality clash... well... it ain't worth it...

There was some discussion of doing a range day at 5 Dogs in Kern sometime this spring... if someone brings a 45 kimber mini-thingee for her to shoot... I'm sure I could beg her to make cookies...maybe..
What she is going to buy however is one of these...Kahr Arms / .45 ACP Models / PM Series...
and one of these.....Kahr Arms / 9mm Models / PM Series
and she bought two purses as SHOT and she bought me a really cool ZT knife... but after meeting ccwinstructor...she won't give it to me till valentines day.... ... not that I think that is bad or anything...
