Hey DRSFEFA.... you're in Kern? I got some good stories about that place.

One was a good CCW story with a guy I knew who worked at Lerdo as a green patch. He had an incident with his CCW and he came to me with his statement so I could read it and give him constructive advice before he gave it to his boss.

It was a pretty scary scenario with him pointing his S&W .45 at a group of bad guys who would not stop walking toward him while laughing. They forced his jeep wrangler off the road and boxed him in...and then would have tried to take his gun, but he said something in a nervous way that stopped them right at the last second.

I wonder if anyone here could guess the three words that saved his life. hehe

Long story...

Three words, not two.

Hey, that is three - "Who's first?" is the same as "Who is first?"

By the way...this happened before cell phones and it happened in a semi-remote area late at night.

We went to the Sheriff's annual Scouting day in Bakersfield. Booths for every facet of the Sheriff's operations from SWAT to CSI to the Bomb Squads robot demos. Really a neat time. We were checking out maybe becoming involved with search and rescue.

I took an opportunity to ask a Deputy how he would want to be notified. Outlining the difference between formal and informal encounters.

His answer was if it was a formal contact, hands in plain sight (in a car hands on the wheel) and simply say: Deputy I have a ccw and I am armed.

If it was informal like he sat in the next booth at a restaurant he wouldn't want to be notified at all.

He totally agreed not to use the word weapon or the word gun.
