Do they require you to qualify with the new gun as well?

No. I only had to qualify with one. I used my KP345 for qualifying. Although I wouldn't have an issue with doing so. More shooting!

Instructors in Kern County, Inyo, Tulare and Mono do not share with issuing agencies the information on which gun the client qualifies with. A client can shoot a 22 on the range for qual. and then go put a 38 on the permit....this is not necessarily smart mind you... but the agencies do not know what the client used on the range.
Mammoth Lakes...interestingly enough, sends their people to a class on safety and the law and then the permit holder has to qualify with the police department...regularly! Kinda cool for them however with about 4,000 permits in Kern County that would keep the agencies busy.... |

The MLPD qualifications are timed, with some motion and they asked us to bring 150 rounds for each gun this year. We may not use them all. Last year I think I shot 50 rounds. Regarding the sheriff, the folks training usually train with the same classes as as Mammoth CCWs do with Powers Security out of Bakersfield. My friend organizes the training and they all qualify with the guns we want on the permit and it gets recorded. The sheriff allows 3 guns as per state reg. There is a new sheriff since my last class though so things may be different now but I doubt it. Anybody who wants to train for an Inyo or Mono County permit can contact me for the class date and the loication is the Bishop Gun Club. I think i paid $85 last time. spc |

And on the flip side - I went back on Monday WITH a check. They called me back today (less than 24 hours!) just to see if I still had the gun I switched out. The gals were courteous, professional, and friendly! I should have the updated permit by the end of the week. I still have the original permit until the revised one gets here.
I love Kern County! ![]()

I'd be interested to know if ANY of the counties are taking cash now-a-days... I know El Dorado isn't (at least for CCW and LiveScans).
