Default Sold a gun on my CCW permit...

I am doing the private party transfer now, but after that takes place do I need to notify the OC Sheriff as well? Or get an updated permit w/o that firearm on it? Thanks!

Default Of course

Why wouldn't you inform OCSD that you no longer want it on your permit and file a form with DOJ that you sold it to absolve you of any liability?

This seems like a no brainer.

That is why I am asking the question... I assumed doing a private transfer through a firearms dealer would be the first step, just need to know what else???

I would play safe, make an appointment with OCSD, pay $10 and have the CCW modified to remove that gun from CCW list and sent the form to DOJ at the same time.

Speaking of which, I need to find time to go to notary and sent a request to DOJ to find out what they think I have. Got couple guns stolen back in 2000, file report with local PD but didn't sent the form to DOJ...

I just did this. Were the stolen firearms handguns or long guns? The CA DOJ

Two handguns. SIG P228 and Kimber Pro Carry (series I). Anaheim PD later recover the P228 but never inform me to pick it up, so I assume it has being destroyed; Never heard from any PD about that Kimber... most likely made it's way down to Mexico already.

BTW, I personally would add one at the same time and make the $10 go further. But then again, I'm thrifty...okay CHEAP!!!

The gun is no longer in your name. Your off the hook. Leave on your CCW till you add your new ultra carry II.

You do not need to send in the form. The DROS did that. A little bit of information is dangerous. The stolen guns will show up under your name, they always will.

Those two guns were stolen from the trunk of my car back in 2000. Anaheim PD later recover the gun when they pull over a Hispanic guy who claim that the gun was lended to him by me, after I already reported both guns stolen to Fullerton PD.

The weird story starts when his trial court is different from the subpoena I received (I never actually have to go to court, that guy plead out). I called about 6 months later and was told to call the other court system (My subpoena was for North County, but his trial was at central as far as I can remember), then the kick-ball game begins. I had 2 other P228 at the time so I was in no hurry trying to get it back, and put that issue behind my head. Never receive any phone call or mail from Anaheim PD after that. Since it's being 7yrs, I figure they might have destroyed the gun. Since I already had over 20K rounds through that one before it got stolen, it didn't bother me as much but the Kimber was practically brand-new...

All very interesting....kinda like thumbscrews & tuneups.

What does the subpoena have to do with anything?

Why did you wait 6 months?

Didn't you say the guy plead out?

Why wouldn’t you care about getting your gun back ...even if it has 20,000 rounds through it?

Why does it matter with regard to your property... that calling the north county where the subpoena was issued informed you the trial is in the central district...? How is that “kick ball”?

What does the race of the suspect have to do with the price of tea in china?

Did you know this suspect? Is that why he said you lent it to him?

Have you ever sold a gun off the books and then reported it stolen?

Maybe that is why you weren't "so interested" in getting your guns back?

Were you worried about the cops asking you about this?
...so you avoided the whole situation...and figured it was a loss anyway?

Convinced yourself that one of them was junk anyway...and decided that because it had 20,000 rounds through it...it wasn't such a hard loss?

It's very suspicious that you would not try to get your P228 and Kimber back.

Ringing some alarm bells

Please clear this up for the members here.

Good respectable questions for such an incredible story. Gosh you should see me when someone borrows but does not return one of my carpentry tools.

A worn out handgun might just need a new barrel, and an almost new Kimber would certainly be worth at least asking the PD about, even if you just sell it afterwards, thats worth several hundred $$ (my cheapest Kimber was almost $800).
