In El Dorado County (and IIRC, Placer, Orange and a few others) there is a requirement that the gun be registered to you. For El Dorado, this rule was kicked in around the first of the year. So, as an example, if you have a handgun that you purchased pre-'68 (I think that is the year) and it was never registered to you, you can legally own it, however, you cannot list it on your CCW. El Dorado now runs your gun serial #'s through the system to verify this. My understanding is that currently, if they aren't registered to you, they just won't let you list them on your CCW, but they have made no moves to force registration (this is in EDC).
I won't discuss what the purpose is or if it is an appropriate rule, just stating what is required.

To my knowledge the same gun can be listed on 2 ccw permits.

Likewise, Humboldt County does not care. In fact, two of the CCW Instructors I know in this area offer a "two for one" deal on training if you bring your spouse and qualify with the same weapons.

NSP,
What county are you in? "Gold Country" covers a lot of area. I am sure of the EDC rule as it applied to me. I am also PRETTY sure of Placer, but we can wait for Auburn Hunter to chime in on that.

My wife and I commonly share guns on our permits and change often. I have had guns on my permit that precede the California registration upon purchase requirement. Many people of my acquaintence share guns on their permits. The local police department encourages officers wives to get permits as their officers often leave guns in the cars. This way wives are not arrested for 12025 when they take hubbies truck to the store for some milk and get pulled over.
The law says you have to register a gun if someone loans it to you but makes exceptions for infrequent loans. The relevant penal code section is 12076(f)... I believe. |

Some counties require that the gun be registered in you or your spouse's name.
