Default Excemptions for Armed Security Officer?

Hey People, a friend of mine has just entered the armed security field. He is at present waiting for his BSIS cards to arrive. Once they are in his possession, his next step is to purchase a firearm for work. He does not have an NFSC(?) card but I was wondering if armed security has an excemption that he can use to purchase. Or does he still need the NFSC?

Thanks Handsomer-Than-Me
Its been a while since I've DROSed a firearm. Last one I got was an old S&W 640-1 snubbie. I don't remember where I DROSed that one!!

I like that revolver...one of these days, I'm going to buy a relative of that model...when I can drum up the cash.

I actualluy have to thank More Cowbell for my last DROS. He was going to throw it away but I jumped in and in my best Lee Ermy voice said "NO, NO, put it down and back the @!!# away from it" Saved another good law abiding pistol from the depridations of the elements!

Ooh, I have a question. Is it illegal to throw a gun away? If yes then what about if you destroy it by cutting it in half or sum such. Or dismantle it all the way down to parts and screws.

I believe if it is a registered gun you have to either transfer to another person who can legally receive it or bring it to yoru local PD for disposal.

I've got a couple of very cheap "saturday night special" autos from back when you could buy them. I asked at my sheriff's office how I should dispose of them and they said to just bring them in and they would take care of them.

Haven't bothered to do it yet, but one of these days.....

The HSC test is a total no brainer, mostly basic gun safety questions, the DOJ has a little "study" guide online, tell your friend not to stress about the test, read the guide, he can pass it.

The HSC Test is basically Common Sense Q&A's. 7 years ago it was possible to have an exemption from the HSC certificate but about 4 years ago that was changed. I know I almost bought a pistol for work as an Armed Security Officer here in San Bernardino but I had to get an HSC Certificate because they Gun Store said they no longer accept the BSIS Exposed Firearms Permit as a valid exception to the rule. Just my personal experience 2 cents worth.

There are exemptions to the HSC... The BSIS Gun Permit is not one of them.

A CCW is another one. Law enforcement, current and retired etc.

Thanks guys for clearing this up. Talked to him about the "HSC" card
Believe it or not, they did not even touch upon that aspect when he took his training for exposed firearm in Los Angeles!! He has just side-stepped a potentially embarassing situation with the help of this Forum.

Next suggestion that I make to him is to get trained with handguns once he gets his BSIS cards. Of course . . . . no need to ask from who. I just hope that the company he works for will not require him to get trained from one of their suggested(????) trainers.

Your Dates and names are off. The BFSC from 1994 thru 2001 has that exemption. In 2002 we went to the HSC and lost that one. Time flies.
