Yup, and here's a story for y'all. I went to the Orange County Sherrif's Advisory Board meeting couple months ago and had the pleasure of sitting with CCWI and couple other forum members @ the same table. Then... at one point as we're all talking about the weather or something (I think it was actually the 3" vs 4" vs lightweight frame vs steel frame) a shadow looms over our table and its........ Sheriff Coroner Mike Carona! Talk about being speechless and trying to say something intelligent while standing up to shake the man's hand and trying hard not to spill water on myself!
As Greg introduced us (there were 3 more forum members and one had his wife with him) Sherrif Carona spent a few moments to find out a bit about us and to talk about the PSR program. Then unfortunately he got called away but it was clear that he would have not minded spending a few more minutes talking to us. I must say I was dissapointed as well as he is a regular Joe (err Mike) and he is very down to earth.

Interesting point to make is that we were the only table and the only group of folks that Sheriff Carona took time to greet personally and speak to that day!

In regards to Sheriff Carona, it seems that he is very liked by his troops as well. He is known to drop in for an inspection of the trainees and on occasion even joins them for some tactical drills (or whatever they are officially called ) and to me that is a sign of a true leader! One cannot lead the troops without being down in the trenches with them and feeling their pain and understanding what they're going through (even if it's only training). This shows his subordinates that he knows and understands them and wants to be in on it as much as his position allows him.

Sounds like I need to hang with Greg more often. His table is the only one that the Sheriff stop? Way too cool!

OH MY GAW ...

Thanks for the Kimber magazine!

Just so you know, I DO work at the range, however, Friday's tend to be social nights for the regulars like Hygyliac and others. You should have said hi!

You know, I almost didn't recognize you... I didn't really put it together till now. This is one of the many reasons why I'm not a cop

Thanks again doll

Something tells me PM's are inbound.

Boy this is what I get for getting some work done on occasion. I miss one of the most important threads in the history of CalCCW. Maybe beyond.

It was a true true true shame that this incident happened in the first place. These types of shenanigans can ruin it for thousands of people, not only in Orange County, but across the state going into the future.

This was a snowball getting larger and gaining speed until CCWI jumped in front of it to save the day.

Thanks CCWI. Oh and thanks to another true hero. Sheriff Mike Carona!

The descripition you gave was very general, however, everybody knew who it was when you asked them. They felt if I didn't time myself off, they wouldn't either. That's why they are friends. You didn't see the trademark I'm known for so I knew I could get away with it.

For the record, I had just landed from Seattle and I knew your shift was ending shortly. That was the first time I've been in that range since 1988.

By they way, the other person you meet from the forum was WKC. If you have questions, go to the source.

Well since you had just landed, I'll let it pass. You know, it was funny because when you asked and then dropped it off I thought I saw a smirk. So of course everyone was like "don't open it! Antrax!!" Or joking that it had a bomb or something. Too funny... I just remember thinking "wtf?". I actually did think about you but didn't think it was you.

So I'm going to be nice and not tell you how old I was in 1988 But, how different does the range look?

Thanks again you sneaky sneaky man...

Apparently! I don't think it was WKC who saw me that Tuesday. It was someone else...the name eludes me at the moment.

I think each and everyone of us owes Greg a plate of wontons and a beverage of his choice. Thank you sir, from all of us.

CCWInstructor is not an SME in that subject. We all look alike to him.

We are all very happy that he is an SME on firearms and policies and works so well with our sheriff.
