Default New Rules For El Dorado County

Now I have your attention!! There is a new Sheriff in town boys... That is if you vote for him!!! Here is a response to my letter for his stance on CCWs...

Hi Brian ~ thank you for your email. My position on CCW's has not wavered and remains as I disclosed from the onset of my campaign. When we design the next version of our web site there will be a page that highlights my position on a number of issues raised in the county, incuding issuance of CCW permits as provided below.

POSITION: CCW PERMITS

As a military veteran, career law enforcement officer, family man, and active community member of El Dorado County for the past two decades, I know very well the issues related to Second Amendment arguments for carrying a weapon. My role as the Sheriff however, and not a member of the judicial or legislative branches of government, would be to strictly apply existing statutes and uphold the U.S. Constitution, not interpret or modify law.

Therefore, I will immediately repeal existing departmental policy requiring residents seeking a permit to prove "good cause." Instead, I will shift the subjective burden of demonstrating "good cause" to myself as the new Sheriff. I will accomplish this by implementing a new CCW policy and making it available to the public and online within one hour of my taking office. This new direction would define “good cause” to automatically exist for ALL residents of our county due in part to our geography, rising crime rate, reduction in deputy positions, and potential for longer response times to emergencies. The expectation of a permit requester will be to comply with existing state law (e.g., complete State mandated firearms training and background check). No longer will additional local requirements be imposed as a condition of permit issuance.
I trust this makes clear how I stand on the issue. I appreciate you contacting me and would appreciate any support you may be able to offer.

Your Comment or Question:
Hello Stan,
Will you make public, on your site, what position you will be holding and enforcing on CCW permits. The current sheriff has made things much more difficult in this matter. It would be nice to have a shall issue policy like 42 other states have.
I have held a permit in El Dorado county for 4 years, One year in Sac county and four years in Idaho. It is very refreshing to be able to get a permit to protect my family rather than money. I am refering to Idaho.
Best regards,
Brian

I'm not in your county, but if I were in your shoes, I'd be jumping for joy. You should get a yard sign and a vehicle wrap for your car, and then some!

I'm excited that there may be some policy change in the county. I hope Stan is serious about what he says and that he gets elected.

Lake Tahoe EDCSO official, Lt. Les Lovell, has endorsed Stan Perez. Lt. Lovell is also very fair and likable.

Thanks for the post. Let us know when his web site has been updated. CCW was a concern by some for Stan Perez. He said he was pro CCW at the Sheriff's forum but not much else.

Keep us updated.

Excellent. I would love to see ALL 58 counties as they should be!
talk to everyone you know, and tell them to tell a friend. Grassroots efforts do work!!!!!

Look what happened in Virginia, and Jersey just yesterday! Times are a changin'
