If I ever find myself in that kind of situation, I am going to follow those suggestions.
I usually try to hand the LEO my ID and rice paper first, then tell him (referring him to my rice paper already in his hand) as you would so that by then he is already looking over my license so there is no question that I am legal.

When you get down to the brass tacks, a dose of polite diplomacy goes a long way in your favor.

Will Rogers said, "There's three kinds of people.
There's them that can learn from others,
There's them that can learn from books,
And there's them that has to whiz on the electric fence for themselves."
I prefer to be one of the first two kind and to learn from others' mistakes.

Default "10" codes....

uuuhhhmmm, I think a better source may be needed.

Here's the "10-" codes in the numerical area being discussed, from the posted link:

10-30 Unnecessary use of radio
10-31 Crime in progress
10-32 Man with gun
10-33 Emergency
10-34 Riot
10-35 Major crime alert
10-36 Correct time

10-37 (Investigate) suspicious vehicle
10-38 Stopping suspicious vehicle
10-39 Urgent — use light, siren
10-40 Silent run — no light, siren

Or did I miss something....?

And this list couldn't possibly be a better demonstration of the danger of "10 codes." There are all kinds of discrepancies -- too many to mention -- between this list, and the list used overwhelmingly by agencies in this area, including, to the best of my knowledge, the CHP.

and since the OP is in Bako... and we use 10 35 as a confidential info . to follow.... like "10 35"?...afirm...."your subject is 10-32f (frank) times 2 for 25,000 each H&S" meaning he has a felony arrest warrant, the bail amt. and for dope...

so it is crazy regional... that's why I usually clear talk to control 3 (chp) and control 4 (hose draggers)

OP... glad it turned out good... sounds like a typical interaction with deputies...they have too much to do to mess with honest folks...
