Sounds like you'll get the CCW. However, I'm sure they'll be watching you closely... and don't think that live scan somewhere else will go undetected by the Sheriff's Dept. Any security-related employment will probably be a swift yank of your CCW. Don't worry though, security jobs aren't the ONLY jobs out there. Be creative.

I called and left a message on Friday asking about possibly restricting my CCW. Hopefully I get a quick call back saying that's ok. I am also working on my GC-so yeah. Thanks guys... It's a tough decision though, I've been applying everywhere that would pay enough for us to survive, and haven't seen many places that have seemed interested other than Security-(3 years of exp does help).

Ok got a call back today, I was told to rewrite my GC and if the "sgt wanted to add an amendment instead of asking for a new GC he would have done that already."

Cross your fingers for me guys, I'm hoping it all ends well.

Dropped off my GC this morning, lady seemed like it was good enough. Also got to write a note to the Sgt explaining that I was still unemployed and that I wouldn't work security if that was a negative factor. She said I should get a call back-wonder how long that will take. Wish me luck

Good luck and keep us posted on the job search, too. Hope all is well with you and the fam.

Got a job, only a temp one (till Jan) so I'll still be looking but at least I am bringing in some income.

Also still haven't heard back about my CCW. Its been now more than a week. I'm sitting at 8 weeks in since my initial livescan/etc. So I should hopefully be getting a letter telling me to pick it up this week. I would assume he would call if he was going to deny my GC.

Well, when it rains it pours. I was just called by the SD and told that my GC was "not good enough", and that I would have till the end of the year to find a job as a Pastor or else I would be denied.

And the job I think I have still hasn't called me back like they were supposed to on Friday. Don't even know what to do anymore-this is insane.

That sucks!! Stay positive brother. The jobs may be thin out there, but for someone who is diligent and is willing to work, they can be had. Does the new job HAVE to be as a Pastor for the application to go through, or is it OK to do anything as long as you aren't in "security?"

BTW...if they haven't called you yet, you should be calling them. When I used to manage, it was the ones who kept calling or coming in that I would look at first when hiring. It shows determination and perserverance, both good qualities in a new hire.

Yeah, I called today. I'm not sure about the Pastor thing, but I'm going to the academy in January anyway, so I should be allowed to CCW as a police officer as long as I pass the qualification-etc. Been a great experience, and I've become a better person through the CCW process. Not going to miss it though!

Best wishes for a positive future, Johnnyboy. Do what you are called to do.

I suspect that the thing about becoming a pastor isn't the matter of becoming a pastor as much as not doing security. "Employment," as in "future employment opportunity," never flies as Good Cause.

Well, I didn't even have a job when I last talked to them. However I'm a bit torn, my new job is overnight so I'm arriving at 12 and leaving at 8. I am also volenteering at a local youth program in a church, half of me wants to call and update them on my life-half of me wants to let sleeping dogs lie. It's not like I would be able to ccw at work or at the center anyway-and the pa starts early next year. I just hate the idea of spending so much time money and effort and not following through all the way.

Just another update-I know I haven't been around for a while.

I have a full time job working at a local hospital.
MY CCW status remains unchanged, it was suggested that after I get the keys for the church I volunteer for that may change. (wishful thinking)

God willing, I will be entering a local police academy's reserve officer program. It takes 12-14 months to complete the full modular academy at which time I can be hired as a Full time police officer.

After the first 3 months I can be hired as a level III Reserve officer.

After the next 4 I can be hired as a level II Reserve officer.

Just noticed that you found your original account. Quite the change of pace going from pastor to cop. Hopefully, your past experience will aid you in talking to the public and dissuading them from going down the wrong path. Good luck with the academy.
