Default Road Trip

I will be dragging my travel trailer to Carlsbad NM, Sante Fe, over to Flagstaff and then up to Zion in Utah. I have a CA. and Utah permit. Checked over on Packing. Org for info on NM and AZ carry but the site seems has been down for a few weeks......maybe it's finally dead. Probably not the best source for out of state info but better than nothing. Not worried about Utah as I used to live there and know the law but New Mexico has some strange rules. Anyone have some tips on New Mexico carry?

BTW, I'm outta here on Friday.......can't wait to clear the state line!

CCW in New Mexico and Arizona is allowed with your Utah CCW. Here is a link to the NM CCW law: http://www.nm-ccw.com/CCW_Law_092005.pdf

Be careful in Arizona, carry is banned in *all* establishments that serve alcohol, even if you're nowhere near the bar and not drinking - in other words, just about all restaurants. It's not enforced much, just be extra careful not to print or reveal I also would avoid carrying in restaurants in police-state suburbs like Scottsdale. Phoenix cops however are cool.

Another tip - when you're driving into Phoenix on I-10, the speed limit suddenly drops to 55 and there are highway patrol motorcycle cops hiding out about one per mile so be very careful there. Enjoy!

Handgunlaw.us

This site is run by two X-PDO moderators and is kept up to date. Of course you should reference the links to state law to verify, but it should get you going in the right direction.

I too tried to key up PDO a week ago to find it down as well. I wanted to look over my lisence tool which showed all of the expiration dates.

I just did OC. to Palm Springs, Pheonix, Delta, Utah to Reno and home (Mammoth).
Have a great trip and do keep an eye open for National Parks and National Monuments as you travel through the area,, They are everywhere. If you happen to get by my neighborhood give me a call if time permits.

Similar liquor sales laws apply in New Mexico. Also, you can CCW only one gun at a time (no BUGs).
This is pretty accurate Handgunlaw.us : CCW Map

Only use packing.org to find the state(s) CCW websites so you can verify just before leaving that:

1) They still honor your CCW
2) Their places that are off-limits

Thanks for all the info.......I just took a look at the New Mexico and Arizona state web pages on CCW and there was some good info there as well. The area that causes me some concern is the many Indian Reservations, sometimes you can be on one and not even know it. This will be my longest trip pulling the trailer (previous vacations were all at Lake Casitas). I think I'm pushing it only having 2 weeks vacation but my wife looks at the atlas and only sees a short squiggly line between some red dots...piece of cake she says!!!!!

If you are rolling along on the Interstate, I wouldn't be too concerned about the reservation boundaries. Just don't go in the casinos or tourist traps armed. If you stop in Gallup, you should be fine as there are lots of pawn shops/jewelry stores to get good bargains in and you are not on reservation land. Watch out though, there are a couple of stores there that look like they are run by indians, but after a couple of minutes you realize they are Chaldeans or Persians pretending to be Navajo and selling imitation indian crap from China.

Good catch on the Reservations. Each tribe has their own ideas.

I thought I saw a list online somewhere that listed whether or not each reservation allows carry in Arizona. Be careful, with most tribes that don't allow carry they won't arrest you but they WILL confiscate your gun and you can't get it back.

The other FYI is that you may frequently wind up on reservations without even knowing it. For example, some shopping centers with Scottsdale, Arizona addresses are actually on the Pima-Maricopa reservation and fall under their jurusdiction - and that particular tribe does not permit ccw.
