Default CCW Issuance In Citrus Heights, Sacramento County

Does anybody have any information about the city of Citrus Heights and their record of issuance of CCWs?
Thanks, Brian
PS: I have an old and expired El Dorado county CCW.
I have a current CCW for the state of Idaho. I had to move back here and leave my NFA guns there. I have a 10 inch Serbu Super shorty 12 gauge and an AWC suppressor for a Gloch 23 -40 caliber-. Idaho was COOL!

Welcome to the forum.

As of 2005, they didn't issue.

You should check with them to see if they defer (declared "g") to the Sheriff's Department. Either way, in Sacramento, you've got a tough hill to climb.

Chances are, Citrus Heights has most likely defacto declared (g) and simply defers all issuance to the Sheriff. I haven't heard of CH issuing any CCW Licenses. This county is one very tough nut to crack. Sacramento PD does, but they're even tougher than the County.

I don't think anyone here is saying "don't apply"... what we want is for you to be aware of is that getting a CCW in this County isn't an easy task.

They were not a city in 2005.

OK. But they're included on the list in that thread titled, "All Cities That issued Two Year CCW's in 2005" http://www.calccw.com/Forums/county-...ws-2005-a.html

Default Citrus Heights A City

I know that Citrus Heights, after becoming a city in 1997. The voters approved the measure to incorporate the City on November 5, 1996, effective January 1, 1997.
The city had NO police office for several years and deferred all policing to the sheriffs' office in Sacramento county. They now have a police department. When it was put into operation, I do not know.

Citrus Heights stood-up their OWN PD in 2006. Before that, they contracted with the SSD for their services. The SSD probably wasn't too happy about losing that... In the Metro Sacramento Area, they only have a contract with Rancho Cordova for the PD. If you see a Rancho Cordova PD car driving around, it's being driven by a Sheriff's Deputy... who may or may not be be wearing a Rancho Cordova PD uniform.

There was a lot of rumor that they might go to issuing CCW's, i think ala Isleton, for the income - that was last year, IIRC. I would think IF that were true, they'd be that much closer to it, but i don't have contact with folks in the know there now.

Default UPDATE: Letter from Citrus Heights Police

Here is the letter I received in response to my inquiry...

I sent you the standard Department of Justice application for a concealed weapons permit. I appreciate you asking for the possibility of receiving such and maybe saving you the time and effort to in filling the paperwork out. As you are probably aware, obtaining a CCW is difficult and as of this date, our agency has not issued any CCW's. The only CCW's that I have heard being issued through my career are to Reserve Police Officers or citizens where their line of work dictates it, for example: citizen who transport expensive jewelry or goods that are high in value.

If you have any questions or would like to talk about it further, please feel free to give me a call.

...PS: I deleted the names from this letter to protect the innocent.
Should I call and see if I can get anywhere? I have had a permit for about 12 years plus plenty of training in firearms and instruction in the use of deadly force.

Well as far as I am concerned, any police or sheriff's dept. that does not issue ccw's to qualified individuals is breaking the law. They simply need to change their ways and start issuing them. Your life and your families lives are worth a hell of a lot more than any jewelry. How the hell can they justify placing more value on expensive jewelry or other high value goods? That is extremely idiotic to say that those things are reason enough to let you carry a gun, but the protection of your own life is not. How absolutely ridiculous!

I can not stand the lack of common sense when it comes to the issuance of ccw's in this state!

+1.
I don't know the stats but I would bet that most violent crime has little to do with taking down large sums of cash or valuables. When I was assaulted/robbed in April, it was gang members just looking for trouble. They gave me a nice beat down, and for good measure took my wallet. They used my ATM card to get some KFC at the drive through, but left me unconscious with $3800 in my left front pocket.

It disgusts me that the COPs and Sheriffs would issue to people to protect their stuff, but don't see fit to issue to protect life and limb. What has our state/country come to?

Thank you for this update. If you do call, ask nicely if they can provide you with their policy so that you know what general criteria they want. Remember, you can apply with the SSD... and Citrus Heights knows that.

Too bad about the NFA issue; Idaho v California. There is a new cool holster for the Super Shorty. Almost concealable.
