You sumed it up correctly. Furthmore is states you are suppose to get your training AFTER you have been approved. They take this class and then a told what to write as their good cause.

It's sad that tar and feathers is no longer socially acceptable.

Default my good cause...

is mine; yours will be ... yours; we might have the same reasons, but the final decision will be the SD in your county. I didn't get on this site or any other looking for help when I was seeking my CCW permit; I did pick up a flyer at Turners', and I did go to that class. They were informative and I learned what I needed to know and yes, the flyer I picked up at Turners' did have in print at the end that it doesn't guarantee your CCW permit. And we were reminded in class that the SD has the last word regarding your permit; I live in San Bernardino County and the process was long, nearly six months. When I got there for my appointment they had MORE paperwork for me to fill out; and the interview was extremely thorough. It's true, many want to carry, but very few should; and fewer still would carry 24/7. My deepest respect goes to those that do; it's a huge responsibility; this is not a game, this is not the movies, not entertainment, not a head trip; this is real life and you only live once; make it count for something good. Yes; I got mine, and I do get 'dressed up' daily; and I pray before I walk out the door.

The problem is the system as it stands now is arbritrary in its issuance, there is not a set standard. I believe all law abiding citizens should qualify to CCW as long as they pass the background check, pass the training and pay the fees. Otherwise we have the system in place now where some counties issue for one reason, but others don't. I don't think you nor anyone else should be able to decide who should and should not carry. It should be a set standard statewide and shall issue if you meet the standard.

the SD in your county does; the interviewer and his perception of who you are and why you need to carry counts for something. I think there are some standards that remain the same throughout California; my personal opinion is just that-personal opinion. It's great that we can all express our opinions, and I hope the Supreme Courts expresses their opinions on the Heller case ASAP.

My point exactly, I'm fortunate to live in a county that issues to everyday folks, but LA county will not regardless of you GC, you either have to be politically connected or a movie star. The only standard that is uniform throughout the State is the requirement that the applicant not be in a prohibited class to own a firearm and have a good cause(which is nebulous and arbritrary at best); which every issuing agency has a different definition of good cause, some counties you merely state self defense, other counties the threshold is higher and other counties have the threshold so high you can never reach it. That is the problem. Let me ask you, why do you feel you GC is better than the average joe that works at McDonalds and just wants to have a CCW for self defense purposes? I see no difference, his perception of need is no different than yours, that is why we have to get to a point of having a set standard that every law abiding citizen can meet, not what is in place now. I'm sure there are thousands if not millions of people that are at much higher risk of harm than you are that cannot get a CCW because they happen to live in LA, SF, Marin counties. That is not fair and not equal protection under law.

... did not state self-defense as a primary reason, it was not emphasized either. There were other reasons, and that's why I think it's up to the SD in your County to decide after they review everything, I mean everything they can verify, in writing, verbally and OTHERWISE. And my reasons were verified; my GC was not your average good cause statement-I AM AT HIGHER RISK; I will stop here, and let me note that I did not get help from this website or any other website; I have no 'connections' to anybody anywhere; I got my CCW on my own---did the paperwork, jumped through the hoops---etc---and now I carry 24/7 for the safety of my family & friends, my neighbors and my community. Thank you Lord!!! P>S> LA County has got it ALL BACKWARDS!!! I shall hold my tongue/I SHALL hold my tongue/I shall................

This is the problem, there are some who believe (1) they know better what is good for others or (2) believe they are better or more important than others.
This is also the case with the local Sheriff. They are after all just people like the rest of us. When a state has arbitrary issue such as Kali4nia and the Sheriff has more to say in the matter than just verifying your law abiding status, then you are setting up a society of us vs them. All laws should be applied equally, PERIOD, END OF SENTENCE, GET IT?????

Now while some, such as myself, are lucky to be in a CCW freindly county these counties may not stay CCW friendly upon change of command of the local Sheriff. This is why if you agree to CCWs in the first place, (of which I do not, I believe there should be no need to prove myself to anyone), then it is important that the state have SHALL ISSUE upon verification in a timely manner of an individuals law abiding status.

...not just portions of it; and it is just my own personal opinion. When the SHTF some do not respond very well, and some do. It's not the weapon you choose to carry; it's the person you are and the proficiency and wisdom you have to chose your battleground and the commitment to die for it.

You are missing the point. The question I asked was clearly a retorical one; I don't need to know nor do I want to know you GC. The point I am trying to make is that the system is broken and your GC is not any more valid than the guy next door that just wants to protect himself from the proverbial bad guy and your preception of at risk is just that; your preception, I might not view you preception of risk suitable for CCW issuance, should you then be denied because I don't think your cause is enough? Of course not, this system of CCW issuance needs reform to make it equitalble for everyone.

.. because I will need to defend myself in what I do/what has happened; different than wanting to defend. The interviewer will know when he checks out my/your GC and can verify through other interviews and etc/blanketyblank...His perception of who I am and what I do is more important than my own; it's not a perfect system and it needs work; but this is what we have and what we need to work on; again my personal opinions are my own; just as I think we who carry 24/7 should take it very seriously.

With this backwards system, yes. But otherwise, no. The perception of self-defense when all other options are out the door is more important to me than anyone else.

I agree with others, the CCW issuance should be standardized to meet a strict criteria (legally) and without the need of giving (in some counties: begging) "cause" for self-defense.

I just got it confirmed the problem is still there. They also know this trainer is now listing the "Avid Shooter" Good Cause in his flyer. They have not seen it, they have just heard about it from rejected applicants.

"But I wrote down exactly what the instructor said I should" . . . .
