The problem is the system as it stands now is arbritrary in its issuance, there is not a set standard. I believe all law abiding citizens should qualify to CCW as long as they pass the background check, pass the training and pay the fees. Otherwise we have the system in place now where some counties issue for one reason, but others don't. I don't think you nor anyone else should be able to decide who should and should not carry. It should be a set standard statewide and shall issue if you meet the standard. |

My point exactly, I'm fortunate to live in a county that issues to everyday folks, but LA county will not regardless of you GC, you either have to be politically connected or a movie star. The only standard that is uniform throughout the State is the requirement that the applicant not be in a prohibited class to own a firearm and have a good cause(which is nebulous and arbritrary at best); which every issuing agency has a different definition of good cause, some counties you merely state self defense, other counties the threshold is higher and other counties have the threshold so high you can never reach it. That is the problem. Let me ask you, why do you feel you GC is better than the average joe that works at McDonalds and just wants to have a CCW for self defense purposes? I see no difference, his perception of need is no different than yours, that is why we have to get to a point of having a set standard that every law abiding citizen can meet, not what is in place now. I'm sure there are thousands if not millions of people that are at much higher risk of harm than you are that cannot get a CCW because they happen to live in LA, SF, Marin counties. That is not fair and not equal protection under law. Last edited by PHM : 04-09-2008 at 12:01 PM. |

This is the problem,
there are some who believe (1) they know better what is good for others or (2) believe they are better or more important than others. This is also the case with the local Sheriff. They are after all just people like the rest of us. When a state has arbitrary issue such as Kali4nia and the Sheriff has more to say in the matter than just verifying your law abiding status, then you are setting up a society of us vs them. All laws should be applied equally, PERIOD, END OF SENTENCE, GET IT?????Now while some, such as myself, are lucky to be in a CCW freindly county these counties may not stay CCW friendly upon change of command of the local Sheriff. This is why if you agree to CCWs in the first place, (of which I do not, I believe there should be no need to prove myself to anyone), then it is important that the state have SHALL ISSUE upon verification in a timely manner of an individuals law abiding status. ![]() ![]()

I agree with others, the CCW issuance should be standardized to meet a strict criteria (legally) and without the need of giving (in some counties: begging) "cause" for self-defense.

I just got it confirmed the problem is still there. They also know this trainer is now listing the "Avid Shooter" Good Cause in his flyer. They have not seen it, they have just heard about it from rejected applicants.
"But I wrote down exactly what the instructor said I should" . . . .
