This post was very informative. I too have heard the Turners Speech. Some of the things that come out of those guys mouths baffles me. One day I even heard one employee say how he lied to some skateboarders outside and told them he was a LEO to get them to go away.

One time I saw a guy there trying to give a convicted felon advice on how to puchase a gun. Im am not familiar with all the laws but Im pretty sure convited felons are not suppost to be in gun stores let alone handle firearms.

Im not sure if I have good cause.....Ill find out later after I take some classes and get more comfortable around firearms again but I really like how no one here will just say "Just use this". IMHO there are many people who should not carry. And if I ask and someone says "thats not good cause" no problem, thats life.

To publish the info would just be bad.

That is called a "straw purchaes" That is a federal felony. Yes, they can not handle a firearm either.

Certainly there are people who should not carry, felons and people with mental illness, that is a given. But "Good Cause" that can mean anything to any sheriff or chief of police. I mean Sheriff Baca would never issue the permits Sheriff Carona issues, Good Cause is subjective, IMHO unfair.

I was actually thinking broader then that. Yes, those are a given. But I think there are people who are not calm, collective, hell ...some people are too damn dumb to carry.

As far as "good cause". Yes, its up to the department that issues it but I would only saw its unfair if two people write the same letters and have the same good cause but only one gets a permit. The fact that they have guidelines and follow them makes it fair to me....maybe its to stringent in the case of OCSD....but sounds like they are being fair. As far as LASD I think they are way too strick......but this is California and we already have the craziest gun laws so it doesn't surprise me.

The sad part is when honest law abiding people who are OK with backround checks, fingerprinting, training, and lots of fees. Get turned down and there are lots of yo-yo's who just carry everyday without anything.

Thanks for the info. I wonder if Turner's can get in trouble for handing a firearm to a felon.....The guy openly told the employee his stuff before asking to see a gun and the guy behind the counter seemed like it was no big deal. They will never get my buissness again.

I would tend to agree with that opinion.

Do we have news about any of the unfortunates that have received letters informing them that they did not qualify for further processing? Its been two weeks since this hit this forum, I would have speculated that someone would have gone to warp speed and resubmitted an appeal letter. Or at the very least contacted their CCW course providers.

Hello Chick, I was wondering if you were refering to CCWI or me in your post.

Its good to see that you are reading the various threads and also replying (from reading your other posts) to the threads. This Forum should be an
interaction between us and the more Learned amoungst us. I'm sure that even the most junior member can contribute something to the benefit of all.

A "vendor" told me on the phone that avid shooter was a good cause and suggested that I sign up for the course and complete before applying. I then found this site and talked to Greg. His approach was more professional to say the least. Thanks!

I went in to OCSD/PSD today to add my Colt 380 Mustang (thanks CCWI) to my permit. Found out anybody using the words "Avid shooter" in their GC or in the interview is being denied. I told one poor guy to go back to his "instructor" and turners and ask for a full refund.
