Default Anyone ever been in a situation where CC gun was used in self-defense?

I am wanting to understand the legal issues surrounding use of guns for self-defense in California. Does anyone know of any books on this subject? ALso I'd be interested to hear personal stories. INcidents known or heard of where individuals carrying concealed weapons, perhaps with CCW or perhaps not, used their firearm for self-defense, either in their own home, or on their property outside of their dwelling, or in their car, or in a public place. I imagine that the legal issues are different, given different variables, but I'd like to understand all of this better.

Also the book "How to own a gun and stay out of Jail"

Thanks: I already have a general understanding of the information you sent vis a vis California penal code. What I don't understand is what ISN'T written in the penal code, namely, how this plays out in practice, and what have been some of the actual stories regarding people who used guns in self-defense. For instance, I have heard that the first thing that happens to those who use a gun in self-defense, killing their assailant, is that they are charged with murder, and that often they are jailed. I want a better understanding of what kinds of circumstances self-defense with a firearm is seen as more justifiable by California courts. FOr instance, if in a robbery, someone points a gun at you and demands your money, what is the likelihood that your use of a gun to defend yourself from possible injury would be seen as justifiable, compared to a situation where a burglar breaks into your house and is standing over your bed with a knife when you shoot him? I have gotten the impression that use of a gun for self-defense in one's own home is the safest ground to be on. BUt I want to know more about how courts have treated other situations.

Your two examples have to many options. You are not safer shooting somebody inside your house vs. outside. That is a wives tale.

Nobody is going to give you legal advice on a public forum. The book is well worth the 10.00 or 12.00.

CCWI is mentioned in the book. I'm sure as a expert witness and subject matter expert he could answer your questions. I just don't see him doing that.

I already have that book: it is somewhat helpful, but I wanted more information. I am not looking for legal advice, I'm looking for stories and court cases, either from individuals or a referral to where I can find such in written form.

There are many court cases referenced in the book recommended by CCWI

All the above is correct and good info. I will add however, if you have to use your gun in a legitimate self defense situation, you WILL be going in with the officers. Almost without question. At least until the details are sorted out.

I think you will also find that people that have used a weapon in self defense do not talk about it. Especially on public forums.

Even if you don't have charges filed, you still have the civil side to deal with. As a result, very little information will be out their publicily.

The Good news. Call CCWI (714) 745-3130, he has agreed to talk to you. He has some information he is going to ask you, that is to verify you are poster on this thread. After that he can pass on real information about shootings you won't read about.

People who have seen, or had the personal experience, will probably not talk about it unless they get to know you well. There is an emotional price to pay.

Your question is in line with my recent inquiry. That inquiry drew some criticisms from some members. These members (some are controlling members of this organization), appear to be ultra conservatives, ultra-libertarian, or ultra-something.

You need to go to the law library to get the information you are looking for. You are onto something I think.
