Default Had my first fall-out today

I had to go to the store for a few small items for tomorrows turkey dinner.

I was carrying IWB.

I got out of my car and while walking to the front of the store, I noticed this young man watching me.

So I reached to feel the firearm and when I did, Whoa....the darn holster had ridden up and detached from my waistband.

When I touched the firearm, it fell out from under my shirt and I was able to catch it keeping it partially concealed.

This young man was still watching me, so I moved toward the trash can that they have infront of most stores. I fiddled around as if I was trying to find something in my pocket to throw away and was able to re-attach the holster inside the waist band.

As I approached the strore, this young man pointed to a table with candy on it, and asked if I wanted to buy some of his candy. I guess he never noticed anything. Whew...

I asked they young man as to what cause he was selling candy. He stated, ahhhh, for my school. I asked to see his broucher, permit or letter from his school authorizing him to sell this candy.

He had nothing of the sort. Another scammer trying to play on peoples good will.

I advised him to leave or I would have the authorities come and question him.

He left.

The bottom line is, my firearm nearly fell out and no one really don't notice what was going on around them.

That is sad....but lucky for me.

Now I'm going to have to go find and buy another holster.

This will be #9 since receiving my CCW....

You just received your CCW right?

Oh man!

Yeah get a good holster. I prefer leather straps on my holsters. Also you might have to take a close look at your belt too.

I am not sure what make or model firearm you carry. But that situation could have had a VERY VERY bad outcome.

In general you should NEVER try to catch a falling firearm.

Glad you caught yourself and you did a fine recovery job! I can't even imagine doing that.

TTGunLeather IWB or Milt Sparks VM II. I have had great luck with both of them. The holster doesn't shift or move around and I am always moving around while working and out and about.

Personally, I would only use an IWB or OWB holster that was secured with a belt and loops. I always use a heavy duty gun belt. It makes a huge difference. I buy mine from TheBeltMan.com

Thanks for the input.......

My main carry is a Glock 23.

It was really my fault.

The firearm didn't fall out of the holster itself. The holster fell out with the firearm secured in it.

I was able to grab the holster and hold it against my side still partially concealed under my shirt.

My fault for not wearing a belt. I just had the holster inside my jeans waist band with the holster clip over the the waist band.

These holsters you mention, do they have a snap belt loop you attach to your belt while carrying IWB.

Oh man glad it did not come out of the holster.

Yes they do have snap belt loops. Though I don't usually unsnap mine. I usually feed my belt through the loops.

BTW I remember you just getting your first CCW. I might be right or wrong on that. Going off memory.

I did not make that statement to frame it in a condescending matter. Though on re-reading it I can see where you might think that. Anyway glad it all worked out for you!

I believe it was AMS MIKE that stated there is a waiting list for these holsters.

I don't remember how long the waiting list was?

Milt Sparks for sure. 3 to 5 months.

TT Gunleather there is one but much shorter.

Check ebay if you don't want to wait, though you will pay a premium.

Its a "Mike's Special"
-one piece back (thanks Hygyliac)
-15 deg more cant
-sits about 3/4" lower on the belt line so its flush

Not a good thing, but I am glad you are sharing your experience. Others here may be able to learn from it.
You need a good quality carry system. Holster plus belt plus spare mag carrier.
Stay away form the clip stuff. During driving the holster can ride up and get pushed out of your waistband. Once you exit your car many things can happen. None of them are good.
Same during weapon presentation. You do not want to die becaues you drew a holster instead of a gun.
You holster needs to be securely attached to your belt and match the gun you carry in it. A quality holster is like a quality gun. Don't go cheap.

If you can get a Milt Sparks VMII quickly buy it. 1.5 inch belt loops and a sturdy gun belt would be my preferred set-up.

BTW your holster might be fine. The lack of belt I believe is probably a major contributor to your situation.

Clip type holster need a solid belt to clip too. Something thinker than even your average everyday belt.

Like AMS I also get my belts from beltman.com

BonoVox,

No offense taken.....I carried in the past when I was a LEO, but back then all we had were the little S&W snub nose .38's.

I shared, even though it was embarrassing, to learn of the New Ways Yoda carrying.
