Default Hunter from Salinas wounded by own handgun in Siskyou County

Here is a story from today's Redding newspaper about a Salinas man who shot himself with a holstered weapon while hunting in Siskyou County. No one commented YET.
THe details are very sketchy but it just proves ALWAYS BE CAREFUL AND ITS ALWAYS LOADED which is why I posted this.
I wonder what he had for a handgun and holster ???

Hunter wounded by own handgun

Saturday, October 11, 2008

A 52-year-old Salinas man suffered a gunshot wound to his leg Thursday in a hunting accident, a Siskiyou County Sheriff's Department reported Friday.

Ronnie Edgar Williams was taken from the U.S. Forest Service Ash Creek station to Mercy Medical Center in Mount Shasta for treatment of a gunshot wound to his right calf.

Williams told deputies that he and three friends were walking on Harris Springs Road east of Pilgrim Creek Road after a deer hunt. He said he adjusted his rifle sling and a handgun he was carrying in a leather holster went off.

His friends drove him to the Ash Creek station, where an ambulance was called.

A sheriff's deputy who inspected the holster said it had been blown out, confirming that the gun had gone off from inside the holster.

Williams underwent surgery Thursday and was recovering at the hospital.

Something about this story sound fishy, guns don't just "go off" by themselves, I hope we get to see the results of the investigation.

I want to know HOW it really happened too, because there's no such thing as an accidental dicharge, only a negligent one.

Default Poor Reporting

A professional journalist would indicate make and model of handgun. Status of the injured person. A quote from the LEO by name. How did the person receive aid? Cellphone?

The story prompts more questions than it provides answers.

IMHO,

OIS.

The holster may have had a exposed trigger area. The sling buckle could hit the trigger.

I sure hope it wasn't a Glock.

You can always claim you're from Minnesooota.

And my Glock isn't one of those rebellious teenage Glocks... but as long as it's living under my roof... it's just going to have to follow the rules!

He probably had his bugger hook on the bang switch when holstering his gun.

Bad things can happen under that condition.
