I knew a woman up in Utah who loved to use psychology to deter criminals. She always kept a VERY large water bowl near the front and back doors, a HUGE chew toy in the rear yard and a length of sturdy chain you could lift an engine with strung out across the patio with a huge broken dog collar attached to the end. No dog, just the hint that the dog was somewhere around ... OFF of his chain. She never had any problems.

Another friend got tired of people breaking into his apartment here in Oceanside, so rather than close up the place, he left the curtains wide open! In the living room, against two walls, were two large cardboard boxes against the wall where outlets were located. A night light was plugged into each outlet to illuminate the box's interior and a ratty old beach towel was partially covering each box. Large six inch round holes were bored into the sides of the boxes at the bottom. On his front door, a tastefully made little plastic sign he had made at a trophy shop:

"Please Knock Softly.
Loud Noises
Disturb the Snakes.
Thank you."

He never had another break in.

Yep, IF someone comes to my door at odd hours I have my .45 in my hand (concealed) and ALWAYS use the peep hole. If it's someone I don't know, I usually just don't answer the door.

There was recently a home invasion here in Bakersfield, depending on the situation, I'm not sure what I would have done with my .45 against three men with shotguns.

I believe you. That said, I've stood on a couple of porches and knocked on a couple of doors in my life as well.

I believe you too!

You know my concern is for the public image of this site. Unless we know it's satire - statements about branishing firearms inappropriately should be quashed, confronted, debated, commented or just deleted.

Aside from my strong disagreement with "showing a nice glock" in that context, we have to remember we are being watched by the general public, government officials and everyone.

If it's not friendly debate, discussion or joking around - we have to control our demeanor here and be professional.

I agree. This forum is read by ALL kinds of people, be it gun supporters, the anti-gun liberal or anywhere in between.

I prefer to be one of the first two kind and to learn from others' mistakes.

That's funny. I have 20/20 in one eye and 20/10 in the other and I usually can't see anything through those security screens.

Maybe you should change your user id to superman.

This is why I installed a camera system at home.

I can see whats going on outside my house, from any computer or TV in my house.

We are talking about the view from the outside of the door.

I have 20/20 in one eye and 20/25 in the other...

Listen...I'm not sure how many times you have had a gun pointed at you. I have had several. The last one was a stainless .38 snubbie at a front door. The guy was arrested, charged with brandishing, violation of probation from a prior weapons conviction, felony 594 after he poured cement down all the toilets in his rented house and child porn charges. He also had ties to the mafia.

Maybe I'm touchy about it. But, that wasn't the point I was originally making.

Only a couple of times now.

My point was I can't see through those damn security screens. No need to get touchy about it.

The "touchy" part is syllogistic.
