Default story like "Tip: If you don't have your CCW yet..... "

I read his story entitled "Tip: If you don't have your CCW yet..... " and it reminded me of a similar instance that happened here locally. A business owner got a call that the alarm was going off early one morning, and then was terminated rapidly. Expecting the worst, he grabbed his gun and left his home to check it out. Sure enough he arrives on scene to find his business broken into and the alarm box and wiring all cut. The police show up, clear the area, and then do what they need to do (reports, etc). The business owner is chatting with one of the cops when he slips up stating something to the effect of "i grabbed my gun, got dressed, and then drove over here". The cop then enquired "where is your gun right now"? Stupidly (well sort of) the business owner replies "oh, right here in my waistband". Well you can imagine the outcome of that! Needless to say he took a ride with the police in silver bracelets that night.

It may be difficult, but often better to say as little as possible. I know I have said the wrong things at the wrong times more often than I would care to admit.

It's quite amazing what trouble people (both GG and BG) get themselves into by not...

Man, I hope he gets off. I know a lot of people that don't have CCWs that respond to alarms at home and businesses. If he owns this place of business, why does the law prevent him from having his weapon in the first place? In a perfect world world, the judge would throw out the charge, and hand this man an application for a permit.

I think this guy has several options that he could choose.

1. contract with armed response security company.
Result : It will cost him money.

2. Bring Baseball bat, 2x4, dirt, Spire or Rock to throw to protect himself instead of firearm.
It's still consider as deadly weapons but less penalty than illegal CCW.

Result : He may risk his life.

3. Bring Not concealable firearm (long gun) or Bring it unloaded in trunk till he get scene then open the trunk load it use it if he need to use.

Result : he have time to think before he leave home and time after he meet BG ?
He may also risk his life.

4. Hide & Wait at corner of street or behind dumpster with no self protection till LEO arrive .

Result : He may lose BG and they may take all assets from his property. especially Friday night on LA. LEO will not come quick enough as he wanted.

5. Bring night vision camera and take as many pictures of BGs.
Result : It may help to catch BGs after all his properties are gone to trash.

Maybe more options, but I guess he chose one for maximum security for himself and quick enough to respond for incident.
I hope gun was registered to himself and it was his first offence.
It may down to misdemeanor CCW instead of felony CCW.

If he was living at OC and chose not to take CCW, misdemeanor charge was his choice.
But If he was living LA or other almost impossible county, choice wasn't his.

I always think what's difference between misdemeanor CCW and legal CCW ?
It would be a lot of difference but one I think most is training and knowledge.

But When I took CCW class for NV (at Vegas), one student who brought .40 and .45, He fail twice for Shooting exam (He passed finally)
Come on !! It's 3yards, 7 Yards, 15 yards......He could not shoot right for non moving big target at range and he will be legal to carry .45 all the time.
(It is kind of scary)
I know many many many people who don't have CCW but 100 times better shooter than him but they are illegal and that guy is legal.

or 6. Call the police, let them respond and clear the building, then approach after the scene is secured.

Whether the gun is carried legally or not, it's a damn bad idea to clear a building by yourself if you have another choice.

Having a CCW is for when you need a gun and you don't have time for the police to arrive. This doesn't sound like that kind of situation. Chances are, by the time the alarm company called him, they were already gone anyways.

Personally, given that I probably would NOT be living IN my place of employment... I would also choose #6...

+1 again on #6.

Regarding 1-5: No property at a business is worth the trouble. That's what insurance is for.

Lastly the alarm company calls the PD first. After the initial call and dispatch and response a good 4-10 minutes had gone by PLUS however long it took the alarm company to call if it wasn't a direct to PD type alarm. No sense in rushing over as the guys are probably already gone as was said before.

I responded to a silent alarm last year and found some guy that didn't seem right near the property. Unfortunately I was by myself and he was on the other side of a 8' high wrought iron locked gate. Fortunately he was stupid and "let" me handcuff him to said gate while I waited for backup to arrive. He had burg tools in his pocket and warrants. Other then one other time in the last 4 years (working 20 hours a week) every other alarm call was a false alarm or the BG's were already gone....and we have an average 4.5 minute response time.

(and yes there is more to the story and yes I had probable cause to detain and arrest this guy for all you hobbyshack lawyers.)

Oops....
I thought he was waiting for LEO to arrive.
(I thought he knew LEO will come)

So, I guess #6 is same as #4 isn't it?
