Default My first LEO contact while carrying...

Last Saturday night I had my first contact with a LEO while carrying. It was completely uneventful, which is good, and I hesitated whether it was worth mentioning here. Hygyliac suggested that it was still worth mentioning the incident to reiterate what I learned from this forum. I agree… so…anyway.. Last Saturday night, Armus and I were returning home from a friend’s BBQ. Driving along Katella in Los Alamitos, we noticed the lanes were being coned off. Then we saw the sign, Sobriety Check! While waiting in the line of cars, Armus and I got out our Driver’s License and CCW permits ready. We pull up and the Officer signals me, as the driver, to roll the window down. He asks us, where we are coming from. We respond BBQ in Montebello. He then asks us, where are we going. We respond back to Armus’ house, which is only a few miles away. Then he informs us that he needs to see our Driver’s license. At this point, Armus hands me his credentials, and I, in turn, hand our Driver’s licenses and CCW permits to him. He looks at them… I believe he recognized the CCW permits, however, I think we confused him and he asks us why the 2 Driver’s licenses. I explain one was mine, the other was Armus’. He says, “Oh.. I only need the Driver’s credentials, and not the passengers. Armus explains that because of the CCW permit, he does need to show him his Driver’s license and his permit. The Officer was friendly and chuckles that he learns something new every night. He then asks me which weapon I was carrying. I responded, “Glock 26”. He smiles , tells us to have a nice night and waves us along. See!! I told you it was boring! But again, I’m glad reading the boards helped to prepare myself for this and future LEO encounters while carrying.
I’m glad that I knew better than to, when asked for my License, not yell, “GUN!! I HAVE A GUN!!!, but I have permit…”

Sounds like you handled it well, and so did the LEO. Good job.

May all of our encounters with Law enforcement go as smoothly.
Good job.

Since I personally know nearly all of our LEO. in this county and I'm not required to inform of my CCW status (No secrets with them in this small county anyway) I love pulling up to those check points, rolling down my window and in my best imitation of a drunk ask: Wass samadder offficer? Their reply is usally something to the tune of Oh get out of here!!

Small communities and neighborhoods are great, aren't they.

Presumably there were none to be had by those present with CCWs.

Yep, boring. But that is good.

That's what I like about this site. There are lots of us here to help others during something like this. It sure helped me when I was stopped last year. It was so boring I didn't even post about it here.

hehe.. your presumption was correct. Since Armus and I were carrying, while driving home, and the BBQ itself, we only drank water and Diet Shasta, Grapefruit flavored.
