If I had meant my grandmother died, I would have said "...bit my grandmother who subsequently died." Sorry to have misled folks by using correct grammar on purpose.
The verb "died" can only refer back to the subject, the dog, and not the object, the grandmother, especially given the use of the connective "and". It used to be that "ambiguous" meant susceptible of more than one meaning, but in modern parlance it has come to be used more often to mean, "My English isn't good enough to figure out what he meant." ![]() |

From what I have heard, OC does not effect dogs the way it does humans, something about the difference in the tear ducts. At the most the dog will react to being his in the face with a liquid.
Glad you are ok. But put me down for carring a firearm and an impact weapon when dealing with animals. Animals are a lot stronger per pound than humans and I don't want to risk getting overwelmed by an animal. Growing up my brother was bit by a german sheperd in the face, it left a lasting lesson, dealing with cats, dogs, horses, livestock etc you will always find me packing a handgun and usually have a long gun near by. Human life is too precious to risk the alternative. I'm an animal person too, I don't like having to put an animal down, but sometimes it is necessary. PS- charging dogs I have had quite a bit of success charging them back screaming like a mad man.... well I ain't been bit yet..... YMMV

I have done the same, charging back and screaming my head off.
I had a dog that used to run around my neighborhood, he attacked my dog once. Second time he came on my front lawn, I had a welcoming reception, a rifled barrel pellet gun. I shot the SOB in the rump area, and when he took off I chased him, just to show him who was dominant. From then on every time that dog saw saw me, he got lost! This, I think is an appropiate respose. |

I'm new here but I've faced the same situations before. My gf's Chihuahua was attacked by a loose Chow Chow that belonged to a neighbor that has now moved away. Not sure if they moved far because I still see the dog every now and then. Then there is another dog right across the street that is not gated in. That dog is a Husky and has attacked my sister's dog on our property. I carry at home and once I had to draw my gun because the dog surprised me as I stepped out the front door with dog.
I've called animal control before but by the time they arrive, the dogs are gone and the neighbors deny that the dogs belongs to them. I'm the only one who carries at home so when my brother takes the dogs out he brings a bat. |

Few weeks ago in Tahoe, there was an outcry about a LEO shooting a Black Bear dead with a shotty. The story was, the bear was trashing the kitchen of a residence when the homeowner got home. When the LEO arrived as he was getting closed to the door the bear rushed out to flee, and the startled LEO thinking he was being attacked instinctively pulled the trigger. Outcry but apparently no charges. I wonder what would have happened if it was a non-LEO who pulled the trigger.

I used to deliver sunday newspapers in a small bodunkt, defunct, old mining town way up her in the foothills. At 3:30 in the morning while on my route I could hit my brakes and look back at all the glowing eyes following me through town.
I had one house that I actually needed to get out of my truck and walk half a block to deliver his newspaper. My Maglite was my best friend and I clutched it tightly every time I had to walk that paper out.

Anybody know if "dog" spray works on people?

I deal with an inordinate number of mean and aggressive dogs in my line of work. I'm interested in your experiences insofar as the use of chemical agents (even homemade as you hinted) and their effectiveness against seemingly rabid dogs.
