The wife & I were at a major chain warehouse store today (about 75 minutes from the house), browsing the aisles (without kids, what a fun date!) not really looking for anything particular.
I was carrying my Springfield XD Compact OWB with a loose shirt over the top (Kimber needs cleaning...)
My wife waves at somebody behind me who, before I can turn around, bumps my carry side. I secure my arm tightly over my weapon as I'm turning to see who it is. (It wasn't much of a bump, don't misunderstand.)
The guy smiles at me, looks at my waist and says, "Good job, I couldn't make you for sure!"
I was speechless for about a nano-second, scanned him and said, "Well at least one of us is carrying. XXXX store is dangerous!"
We had a good laugh, talked local politics and said our goodbyes.

The guy who bumped me was my County's Sheriff... who issued my permit.

That sounds like a nice outcome overall. And of all people to "bump into".

Any day your issuing Sheriff says "Good Job" is a good day.

Good thing that the wife knows what your Sheriff looks like and knew what was about to transpire. Always good when the wife is also aware of your immediate surroundings.

My wife's an attorney up here, so she knows almost as many people as I do and we see the Sheriff and his wife out at dinner now an then, go to the same events, etc. There's only 30,000 people up here so you see everyone...

Yep, and he's a great guy too. Did you know him from his DOJ days?

Sounds as if he was just checking since he couldn't 'make you'. Sweet to have a cool Sheriff like that.
