"...I want both of them and my sister in law (who wasn't there at the time, so I don't know how much she knows but she's even farther off the deep end into liberalism by virtue of being a theater actress in NYC) to carry daily as I do because I love them as much as is evident that they love me. I can't say how quickly that will come about as they're very set in their ways but I can say that they're a lot farther along now than they were had it not been that I brought it to them."
I'm no lawyer, so I won't even go into your methodology in trying to change California CCW laws. I do have several liberal relatives and can tell you that proselytizing to an anti second amendment type doesn't usually do much but make him think of you as a "gun nut". The only two anti second amendment liberals I've seen "converted" if you will (I hate that term for this subject) is my wife and my cousin. Neither of whom had their minds changed by my doing. For my wife, it took an attempted break in where the police response time was more than 20 minutes. Luckily, I was able to help the would be assailant make an informed decision to leave without bloodshed. With my cousin, it took a mugging...she lives in San Fransisco so legal ccw is out of the question. Both my wife and cousin approached me to learn how to shoot, specifically because I was not pushy about firearms (politics yes, I'm pushy) but they know I can shoot. I sprung for both of them to take the hunter safety course and a lesson with an NRA instructor (won't try to teach my wife anything after a near divorce experience teaching her to ski). You may want to ease up on the enthusiasm when dealing with your liberal relatives. I'd particularly refrain from using phrases like referring to them as "sheep". I think the phrase I understand is on the Az permit "Courteous Vigilance" is one of the best phrases I've heard for ccw or would be ccw holders. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong on the Az ccw phrase) |

Yellow Fin...Welcome. Appreciate your service and enthusium. I enjoyed your sharing of your recent family experience.
I'm kind of a new poster here as well, although i've been a lurker for quite a while. What I can tell you from my experience and personally meeting several of the forum members is this. Our respect for each others choices and opinions is vast on a personal level, but the forum itself is tightly focused. It is providing the knowledge, information and thoughtful guidance to pursue CCW's in the State of California within the means of the laws, as they stand. I'm originally from "back East" and carried a CCW for many years. Trying to get my arms around the West Coast version has been difficult because my mind was set to the thinking of my regional upbringing. Here in California, CCW holders are looked at with a much more jaundiced eye, so we carry that responsibiltiy much more somberly. So we work within the system and make our small steps forward and leave the "kick in the pants" approaches to other forums dedicated to that end. Again, welcome |

Well, yes...actually we are. As I mentioned, this forum is tightly focused on CCW information and knowledge, not policital advocacy. All are welcome to play in our sandbox....don't like the rules, take your sand and go home.

NSP....I guess my tone came off poorly in response to the "welcoming" sarcasm. I was try to note that the forum members generally try to provide knowledge, experience, etc to obtain CCW's. As I previously stated:
"Our respect for each others choices and opinions is vast on a personal level, but the forum itself is tightly focused. It is providing the knowledge, information and thoughtful guidance to pursue CCW's in the State of California within the means of the laws, as they stand." Our mindset is not generally geared as a CCW political forum. However, you know as well as I, that actions resuting in the loss of a CCW, get alot of emotion here. In OC Ranchers plea, I think he was promoting that by not excersizing our voting responsibility, the direct result would be appointment of a OC Sheriff that was clearly anti-CCW, hence bye-bye CCW If I came off as advocating a double-standard, my apologies....the line is sometimes thin.

While you may or may not be correct, I'd leave it for the site admins to tell people where to go and what to do with their sand. |
