Default Wamu

I usually go to this one specific branch of Washington Mutual, I've been going there for years. They have a double door and a metal detector that has been broken for as long as I can remember. Well this one day I go to another branch and as I go in I see the metal detector and think nothing of it until it goes off. I quickly look up at the security guard we flash smiles at each other and he motions me in. I was just happy there was no line that day!

That's interesting. I can't say I've ever seen a metal detector at a bank.

Yeah that is strange. The thing would go off with just about every person. You sure it is/was a metal detector?

My local Wells Fargo has a set of double bullet proof doors, one has to close before the other door will open and it has a weapon detection system; it will lock you inside the two doors if a weapon is detected. I have been locked in several times; I think the machine gets a lot of false positives and happens regularly, anyway the branch manger just looks at the person inside the two doors and unlocks it from her desk to let you in as long as you look ok to her.

I have seen the 2 doors deals on occasion. What the heck could a weapons detection system detect? I am not saying you are wrong. But short of being a metal detector. Which if it is.......what is the point?

Heck you can rob a bank with a note and a hand in a pocket.

I always figured those were for locking in bank robbers as they exit.

They really have metal detectors in them?

I used to see them at the Union Bank in Paramount when I worked in that area.

My credit union has one of these as well. They've had it for several years, but only at one branch. The one right near the Santa Ana Courthouse. They even have a little door with a table next to it, that you are supposed to put your "large metal object" on so that they can "inspect" it. Yeah right.

You can usually dial down the sensitivity of those to just alert when it detects a larger metal object, so it ignores wristwatches, jewelry, and so forth, but her full size Kimber Warrior with spare mags probably set off all the alarms, good thing she looked non-threatening!

I always pull out a big wad of keys and shrug. They always let me right through, though I guess I don't look as threatening as some.
