I noticed in myself that I had a false sence of security because I was armed. With that in mind I have tried to act as street wise as I did prior to carrying a gun.

Although I am still waiting on DOJ to get back to the sheriff, I have started driving slower, get less riled about things, read all the liscense plates i can when entering shady stores, and only go in there if i have to. Keep my back against the wall and sit so i can see the door.

I think the only real thing (besides the obvious) that has changed is if I am IWB instead of a safepacker is I look in the mirror before I leave the house.

Normally I could give a rats *** about how disheveled I look. I don't get paid to look pretty.

Now I make sure nothing is going to snag or print if I move around. With appendix carry this is less of an issue than strong side.

I'm noticing things around me that I was oblivious to in the past.

There was a similar conversation today on GlockTalk: My attitude since getting carry permit - Glock Talk

It seems CCW has a positive effect on your average citizen!

In 1964 I was hired as a deputy probation officer in NYS & our county court judge was in charge of issuing ccws.Even though I was dealing with dangerous felons the judge wouldn't issue it for protection he had his clerk type on it "Good only for carrying to and from the range for target practice" but he didn't specify which range there were ranges every place I went.

Maybe a bit. I was raised in a world of black and white, right and wrong. Nothing in between. My driving has changed slightly. I no longer have the urge to openly express my displeasure with other drivers. My situational awareness has always been fairly high but now I position myself better in a room and look for more "exit" routes. My wife is now comfortable with me carrying.

Perhaps it's the number of criminal instances happening that has increased her awareness along with the lack or reaction/recognition of those around us that makes her feel better.

My GF recently remarked that I was "more afraid than she was", because I "avoided people who acted strangely (chemically impaired) even before she noticed them".

I told her it was not fear but caution. I choose not to come into proximity of folks who act suspiciously, which avoids having to deal with them if they do decide to do something unpleasant.

I avoid people like that too for the same reason - caution.

I prefer to be one of the first two kind and to learn from others' mistakes.

As I mentioned in a earlier post, I'm becoming more aware of my surroundings. My wife said that I've started locking her in the car when pumping gas, running into a store or at the atm. She thinks that I've become paranoid. I tell her that It's not paranoia, but planning and thinking ahead.

I've also noticed that I'm beginning to forget that my gun is on my hip.
