Default "Nightstand" Set Up (and too close for comfort)

The incident in Irvine yesterday where the rapist made his way into someone's home was literally at the end of my street. Just prior to the police swarming the area, someone tried our front door as if to get in. I wasn't home, but my stepson heard it, looked out the window to see someone walking away then stopping to urinate on the sidewalk (in Irvine of all places.) I think a rapist on the run wouldn't stop to pee, but I don't really believe in coincidences.

Anyway, that begs the question, what do you have as your nightstand gun? Do you have a dedicated gun that is always there, or when you're done carrying for the day do you place your carry gun nearby? If you have a dedicated gun, does it have a light attached or do you keep a light near by. If it's a dedicated gun, what do you do about security (keeping other people from getting it.)

Thanks.

FWIW, I have kids roaming around the house, so all guns get locked into safes, but I have a nice quick access digital safe near the bed, with a very sweet 1911 and loaded mags, and an 80 lumin flashlight. Also, spare Gerber dagger, and huge "Buffalo skinner" knife. Last line of defense is the attack cat on the front porch, it might take a bite out of anything that moves! LOL!

We have no kids and do not have many visitors... we are in a condo 2nd floor. Next to Irivine(on the better side). I have a CCW piece in a fake "Plan B - Dayplanner" beside the bed. It looks like a Bible on the lower shelf of the nightstand, but has one of my carry pieces in it ... with teeth + extras. I chose to have one of my carry pieces in it in case I had to go out the door and onto the sidewalk, street etc.... I also have one in my office at home that is also on the list ... same reason as above. Yes, it has teeth. I do not want to make the mistake of being in public with a CCW and not have one with me that is not on the list .... I just wish there were more than three allowed on the list.....

I just wish I could have more than one copy of the CCW itself. I'd laminate it into the grips of each carry gun. I'd hate to be on the sidewalk in my PJ's with my legal weapon and my permit in my wallet inside.

All my kids, except the youngest who is 16, are adults now and, for the most, out of the house.

I normally keep one of my CCW guns on the nightstand, loaded and locked, along with a SureFire light. I also have a small combination lock Gun Vault in the nightstand containing some of my other pistols, normally a couple J-frames loaded with Golden Sabres.

Some of you are also aware that I have recently been working on a tactical shotgun project. This shotgun resides next to the bed as well, fully loaded with OO Buckshot and a mounted 200 lumen SureFire light.

I also have a highly trained "Attack Cat". If a cat can be bipolar, this cat is. She will go from "loving ball of fluff" to "Demon Spawn" in the blink of an eye.

Thanks,

Thanks,
Attack Cat! When my daughter was very young I was tickling her and she was doing that high pitched scream thing kids do. I looked when her cat spit. Stupid cat had her back up. I ignored the cat and went back to playing with my daughter. That was the wrong thing to do! The cat landed on my back and ripped me up, big-time.Never had any hand guns around when she was small. Last time we visited I got her shoot a .40 cal. Now she wants one. I guess it might replace the cat.

There is a Glock 10 mm in my nightstand and a Shepard/Husky/Hybred mix dog named Tallyban roaming the house. Enter at your own risk !

I have a phoenix gunlocker in the bedroom holding an XD.45 federal hydroshock rounds and a LED flashlight. Other than that our dog is in the main room.

When my kid is away I keep my Mossberg 12 guage next to the bed with five 1 ounce slugs in it.

I guess we're almost neighbors, that was like 3 blocks from me.

I keep a loaded 45 in the bedside quick-access safe, with a Surefire U2 next to it (and a TLR-1 mounted on the rail), and a Remington 870 ready-to-rack under the bed.

I also keep a loaded pistol in a safe near the front of the house, in the event of a front-door surprise on those rare occasions I'm not already packing.

I'd mention the dog, but he sleeps through damn near everything anyway, so I don't know he'd be any kind of use.

No kids at home anymore. Jack Russell mix on the foot of my bed. Alarm set to instant mode with a G30 and a Inova T-4 on the nightstand.

When the grandkids are spending the night, I switch to my 1911 without a round in the chamber. It's slower and more deliberate intentionally. It it would be next to impossible for the little ones to rack a round in it and the older ones know better than to touch my guns.

I have a finger-groove gun safe on my nightstand, cable locked to the bed. Inside is my .45, .38 and .40. Next to the safe is a standard flashlight.
Between the door and us, are two aggressive, 100lbs+ German Shepherds, who are trained to guard us while we sleep. If a motion light goes on outside, they are up and roving the interior for answers.

We recently had an incident in Sierra City....a woman heard a noise outside and there was a man standing by her car. She held a flashlight on him and told him to leave. He walked toward her and acted strange. She called 911. The man stole her neighbor's car and it was later found out he was a murderer fugitive. She saw him, and her attention was drawn by a motion light. Motion lights, dogs, locked doors and firearms - the keys to security at home.

No little ones to worry about so my daily carry rests on the night stand when not on my hip. Next to it is a sure fire flash light and back up mag.

I do have a back up gun (Glock with light attached) stashed in another part of the house... I could tell you where... but then, yada, yada, yada.

Yea, happened close to me too. I'm off West Yale Loop. I keep a gunsafe bedside open at night.

Default My setup

I have "Insteon" lights installed throughout my house, and controllers for my landscape lights. If I hear something go bump in the night, I hit one button next to the bedside and every light inside and outside of my house turns on. I also have full perimeter monitored alarm protection that I set every night. If that's not enough, the 12 gauge is nearby, as is the P226 with 2 pre-ban mags & Streamlight.
