2. I was sitting in my car, reading a newspaper. 3. There are no open businesses in the lot, it's a parking lot for a bunch of shut down businesses. 4. 3pm 5. I won't go into details about my car, but as I said before: "well-kept newer vehicle built in the last few years, not some beat up piece of junk" 6. Factory rear tint, clear front windshield and clear drivers and passenger front windows 7. "well-kept newer vehicle built in the last few years, not some beat up piece of junk" 8. My first time in that lot ever. Once I arrived, I notified police. Was there for a few hours with no problems. I'm not really even sure that guy was the property manager, as he told police. I tried to research it, but couldn't confirm or deny. It could have been an outside vigilante for all I know. In the end, both he and I were doing our jobs. Unfortunately, I think he took detaining a moving vehicle a little far, but that's his problem. Next time he does that and he's chasing down a criminal, I don't believe that a criminal would hesitate to harm him. Last edited by johnadams : 03-06-2008 at 11:26 PM. |

Regardless of what you were doing (which is easy to guess), a simple conversation with the guy may have been a better course of action. I hope others reading this thread don't file this one with the other great "incident" examples. Endangering others with a jason bourne inspired car chase is just not the right way to handle things. |

Wow, scary stuff.
I personally am no fan of lawyers and lawsuits, but I'd at least talk with a lawyer about the possibility of a civil suit against this guy. He sounds like a loose cannon and probably needs to learn a lesson in court or he might do this to someone else. Donate the judgment to charity if you don't believe in suing for monetary gain (my personal belief system), but either way, shut this guy down. Let him learn that his actions have consequences. |

Unfortunately, the first I saw of the suspect, he was a few feet behind my car following me while I was doing my job. When I made a few regular-speed turns to see if he was really following me, that's when he started to get agressive. He blocked me in. He tried to crash into me. Getting out of my car would have been a bad idea. Rolling down the window after his actions would have made me a sitting target for someone wanting to do harm. I've had a few people walk up and ask why I'm parked somewhere. I don't mind telling them and having a civil conversation. I'll even find another spot if they don't feel comfortable with me there. Unfortunately, this guy took it to a seriously dangerous level. |

There was something like this in Reno a few years back. The "victim" drove to Reno PD and the suspect followed him. He walked into the station and told them he was being followed. The suspect walked in behind him, intoxicated and hostile. He was arrested.

I have already responded to this... I couldn't just have a simple conversation with the guy. At the time, I didn't know why he was coming after me. If he really intended to do harm, I would have got rolled down the window and been a sitting duck. I could have also got out of the car and had my legs pinned between my car and his. BAD IDEA.

Having a conversation with this guy as he's trying to crash into my car and block me in is a bad idea. It's an invitation to get your legs crushed or get shot by someone with bad intentions. And as for this guy's stupidity... he could have been chasing an undercover cop or a criminal, for all he knew. Lucky I'm just a citizen, otherwise the cop or criminal would have shot him. |

What most people seem to be saying is that the way you reacted to that threat (specifically leading this guy around town/ wrong side of the road stuff) was not the right way to handle it.
