All of my kids (ages 9, 8, 12) know that I carry, in fact I usually leave it on after I get home and take off my dress shirt covering my Glock just because ... I don't know, just because. But in any event, we have a code word for my gun and it has been stressed and stressed and stressed to them that it is a family secret that is not to be discussed. My 12 year old shoots with me when he wants to, anytime I go out (I'm fortunate enough to be able to shoot in my backyard) I let him know and offer for him to come with me (he likes to shoot my Beretta .25 pocket pistol) and sometimes he will if he feels like it. But that has been my goal, the fact that I have guns is not a big deal, if they want to touch, they ask and I'll unload and let them touch in my presence. That way there's no curiosity that will make them try to sneak into the guns to see them when I'm not around. My two younger ones have shot my .22 rifle, but even that's a little big for them (the length of the rifle).
I've got some good kids that understand that danger of firearms but are being raised to be used to having them around.
