4) Would love to have coffee one of these days - I'm in Shingle Springs now. Holler some day when you get a chance...
Buba,

I am in Placer County, the Wally World in question was off of the 65. I live up that way and work in Rancho, but am always around the El Dorado Hills area and would enjoy grabbin a cup of coffee with a fellow ccw holder. The reason I disclosed was something that the officer doing my interview said after he signed off on the application "If we know ahead of time, it makes interaction "friendly". If an officer sees a gun and you have not disclosed, you are immediatley now a BG until we see the permit, better to NEVER be considered the BG. Hand them your permit with you ID and a smile and everything will be easy, and when guns are invloved easy is always better"

OCRancher,

I got my screen name from one of my hobbies. I had 16 RC cars until when my wife decided that we need to buy the entire family kayaks, and now I am down to 5 Had to finance that venture somehow LOL. Anyway my favorite was hopped up HPI Savage and a really tricked out TMaxx, thus the SavageMaxx screen name. And as far as the classes go, I am looking at either Thunder Ranch or Vallhala...if anyone has any suggetions of a more local train facility let me know.

Great job, I'd also love to know which WalMart that was as I have family in your area.

I think he is talking about the Wal-Mart off of Hwy 65 on Pleasant Grove Blvd.

Worse than being outnumbered is having loved ones with you. THAT multiplies the complexity exponentially.

Glad everything worked out well. Also, a great opportunity for a father/daughter chat....

That's in my neck of the woods. Always seemed like a "safe neighborhood," but I guess there's no such thing.

The OP will have to confirm if that is the correct Wal-Mart.

glad no one was hurt but glad you and you daughter were so aware. so many times people just go about their business and don't pay attention to what's going on around them. it's good your daughter is learning because she'll be out in the world on her own before you know it

yes, its the Walmart off of Pleasant Grove. When we first moved to that area 8 years ago it was a nice quite place. Now, I have lost 3 stereos in 2 years out of my truck, my neighbor who has three very nice classic cars went to bed and left his garage door up. With three cars in the garage and three in the driveway someone stole the rims on his cars IN HIS GARAGE, then checked his pass thru door into his house, and with everyone asleep, went inot the house, and stole electronics, cash and furniture. The RPD told him its a good thing he, his wife and his teenage daughters slept thru it as people that are bold enuff to enter an occupied dwelling are very brazen and capable of gos knows what. If one of them had woken up, it could have turned out very bad. The next day he came over and asked me about getting a gun, took him over to SW on Lonetree and helped him pick out his first handgun. He bought his booklet and is going to take his test tonight. As my wife and I now agree, no place is safe anymore, best to be armed and prepared....period.

GOOD JOB

Chalk one more up for the good guys.
I wonder if this will go down as a statistic in the crime reports as a use of firearm in self defense?
Often times people use firearms in self defense without firing a shot and it goes unreported as a possitive statistic.
Whether the firearm was drawn or not is irrelevant, savagemaxx still stopped a crime about to happen simply by having a firearm and being able to use it.
His situational awareness is excellent.

Once more, good job.

Good Job... In my CCW Classes I proclaim the #1 rule of a gunfight is to AVOID a gunfight....not just have a gun... but try to avoid the situation... good job there...

As to Thunder Ranch... very much a friendly environment... Clint and Heidi treat you like a member of the family...not the red-headed stepchild kinda family either.... small groups... I think they limit the class size to 12 people... beautiful environment and the people in the small town were very friendly... the cops saw the California License plate and waved to us... everyone in town had big smiles and a helpful hand...they all seemed to know we were there to take a class...the ammo situation is expensive and that is a downer... other than that I would say the best compliment I have of the course was that I am scheduled to go back in July for home and vehicle defense with my wife and daughter... My wife felt very comfortable at the first class and really pushed to go back...

That's what I thought. Cool. I fly R/C but have been around enough hobby shops and forums to know the forum name game. I have a couple of R/C cars that I built over the years, but mostly because the weather was too bad to fly. (Revo, Brushless/LiPo TC4, various elec Crawlers,) I still have a couple planes to build up, one being a F4U Corsair with a wingspan over 5' wide.

Good point. A crime was thwarted by the mere presence of an legally armed individual (or so it seemed to the BG) This is the psycho-social component of a legally armed society. The part the anti's don't get.

Savage -
Sorry about that, for some reason I thought you were in El Dorado...

RE: the "declaring" the permit. That's good to know they suggested it. When I asked the interviewer in EDC, she said something like better not to stir the pot. I wouldn't take it as gospel as I think she is admin, not sworn.

Glad y'all are safe.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm glad that it turned out so well for you and your daughter.

It's the sharing as you did that makes this forum so very valuable. I learn something every day.
