Hmm, in my case it was my girlfriend who talked me into getting my CCW so telling her was moot point. She said she feels safer with I have it with me. She goes to the range occasionally with me. Damn, she shoots my 45 better than me.

My dad is cool with it. He's always been around guns all his life and he used to be in the army. I told him I carry but never made an issue of it.

My mom on the other hand, is the one who has issues over it. She says she believes in our rights, but thinks no one should have guns. There's always going to be at least one person who objects. Goes with the territory. Probably part of why my dad gave me all of his guns when he retired.

Funny how it goes around. Grew up in the South, so guns, hunting, etc were a part of a annual routine in my big family.
They were tools, safety and respect was drilled in. Boys and girls alike participated. "Range dates" were as good as bowling or a ball game. In SoCal, very different story...if you had guns or enjoyed shooting, you often got the "stink-eye"!
Dating a great SolCal girl now. Know each other for years, but just started dating. Mentioned I was going to get re-trained at CCW's basic class soon. As slow and thoughtful discussion ensued.
Knowledge of my character prior to dating helped greatly. She knew I was "a good person", so I got the benefit of the doubt.
Honoring her comfort zone was key. A trip to Evans to see what the fuss was all about helped. Then finding a middle-ground as to where "stuff" was in the house and in what condition (loaded, unloaded, locked, etc) got us to a good point.
Like with CCW's, character, demenor and maturity speak better than the firearms.
