My opinion is that whenever I have a meeting with a copper in uniform I would mention my CCW...to cover my arse with the PSD. When I have mentioned it they do not care but it covers my behind and I am conforming to the rules I agreed to when I received the CCW.
The conversation has to last for more than a couple minutes i.e. I was stopped by a Santa Monica copper while walking a dog because they wanted to know what kind of dog it was (good looking beast etc.) and I did not mention the CCW because the conversation lasted for less then a couple of minutes and I was carrying a fanny pack, in front and clearly visible. |

PSD opinion is the only that matters.

The different viewpoints expressed are reflection of the diversity of the people expressing them and all are contributory. Something that has not come up however, at least specifically, is the fact that many California LEOs have never even seen a California CCW Permit. Some may even still believe that California does not issue CCWs, period. Some have some awareness of CCW requirements in their Counties however, they deal with CCW issues so rarely that their ability to handle these issues may not always be appropriate to the situation. The requirements regarding LEO notification of CCW status upon contact all vary from County to County and itemizing the specific differences would most likey require a great deal of research and analysis. We all have an opinion on this and all of our opinions are valuable and contributory, however, to paraphrase CCWI "Only the opinion of the issuing authority is the one that matters". Thanks,

Because it can create difficulties when you travel. If you are in a county where the Sheriff doesn't want you to notify, but your Sheriff does want you to notify, you have a conflict.

+1 I'm assuming most OC deputies know that OC permits must be announced, but do they know that doesn't apply to other issuing agencies, some even within OC? |
