Can't always control this one. Sometimes acquaintances just happen to show up. Just like officers.
The ONLY reason you have a CCW is so that you can SHOW IT to an LEO when you need to... What other reason do you have it? To keep your credit cards warm?

Ahhhhhhhhhh… now I see your point. I wasn’t connecting with your use of the word “want”. I couldn’t get past it being a synonym for crave / can’t wait to. Agree. There are times where you absolutely have a need and/or obligation to show paper, however as a general rule, I really don’t want to. Just like I don’t want to share my ss#, CDL#, etc.

Default Another scenario for contemplation…

I was downtown in a major metro area of N. Cal, standing on a corner with about a dozen other people waiting for the light to change so we could cross a very busy, noisy (traffic) intersection. I was at the rear of the pack and heard an unusual sound approaching from behind. I casually looked over my shoulder and up rode a policeman on horseback. He gave me a nod and said “Good afternoon.” I replied with “Good afternoon. Nice horse.” Other people then noticed his presence and began to ask him questions about the horse. The light finally changed and everyone proceeded, including the officer, to cross the street.

In OC, tell or no tell?

Almost exact situation, exact question . . . as I was putting both away,I told the person asking that my license was expired and that I had to show the DMV temporary DL. People will accept simple answers to their questions.

+1. This was not an official contact. It was a "Hey how yadoin? Mighty fine weather we're having" situation.

I agree, but the policy doesn't say "official".

If the new Sheriff is going to change the CCW policy, that's one change I'd applaud.

If you'd have to flag the officer down and interrupt them to tell them, it's probably not worth chasing after them waving your rice paper.
