Default First LEO encounter while carrying

Got pulled over the other night. Going through a small town in the southern CA desert, a one stop sign kind of place, at about 2:00 am. I made a full stop, and was careful to stay under the speed limit through town. Hit the edge of town and the red/blue lights came on behind me. First thing the county cop asks is where are we going, who's in the van (Older camper type van, kinda hippy looking, just me and my wife). Then asks for Drivers license + reg, etc. I first inform him that I and my wife both have CCW's and both are carrying. He asks where the weapons are, IWB for me, Purse for wife. He says ok, thanks for informing me, you can give me your license now. He goes back to his car, runs us through his computer, comes back and says I pulled you over for a burned out license plate light, not going to cite you for it. Asks what we were carrying, G30 for me, S+W 442 for wife, he says good choices, we have a brief conversations about guns and he sends us on our way. I'm sure he was just trolling for drunks or druggies and was a little surprised that this hippy looking van with the long haired guy driving was a ccw holder and 2A supporter. Officer was very polite and profesional. All in all, a good experiance, except for that first oh **** moment when the lights came on behind us!!

Handled very well and for sure was checking for drunks and drugs.

Ready to "pimp" your van, let me know.

Have a Happy New Year!

Thumbs up Thanks for sharing!

Sounds like you handled that in the best way possible. You made sure he wasn't going to be suprised if he were to see your carry and he appreciated it. As it turned out, he made you aware of the reason he pulled you over so you could fix it and everything was good.

Good job.
