At least put the gun to the guy's head and let him know he's a split second away from going to hell if he does not do EXACTLY as you tell him. Put him on the floor and call the cops, who knows who's son, husband, daughter, wife, father, mother, etc. is going to die because this guy was allowed to walk when he COULD have been stopped. I think you are missing the point of a CCW. You are NOT the law. CCW is only to be used when your life is in danger. Sure the bad guy might strike again, but then... he might also get struck by lightening before then or maybe find god and go straight. Point is... you don;t know and unless you carry a badge (a real one)... you are not authorized to stop a crime in progress unless you are in fear for your life or the life of others. In another word... you are not here to protect the world.. only yourself. It is not the responsibilty of the CCW holder to uphold the law... in fact, you CANNOT play cop with a CCW. Not to mention the LEO's dept will protect the LEO from lawsuits... and a CCW is on his own with lawsuits. I'm all for saving lifes... but I'm no superman... not here to save the world... if I was... I be a cop.

XD in the OC,

You did what you thought was right at that time. Nobody was hurt and that is the most importent thing.

there is a time and a place for everything ... I agree that no one got hurt and everyone is safe ... perhaps another time and place would have been different; if he[BG] tries it again; and he will; because he knows he can, the outcome may not be as amicable.

Default I'm really confused...

1. Why did you show your CCW permit to the cops? It's not like you shot and killed the BG nor did you pull out your gun. You had no business showing your CCW permit to the police. You are legally authorized to carry concealed weapon and it's none of their business that you are carrying a concealed weapon. If you are so desperate to announce to the world that you are CCW permit holder, why don't you get a CCW badge? That should get you all the attention you need.

2. Does your employer know that you carry a concealed weapon?
Were you even authorized to carry? If your employer doesn't
allow its employees and general public to carry guns on their property,
your CCW permit means absolutely nothing. I think you admitted to conceal
carry just to cover your butt.

Nice first post.

And try to imagine the cops noticing he was packing rather then being told. Now do you see why he told them?

If I had to guess he has an Orange County CCW which has a rule saying that during an offical contact the CCW holder has to announce to a LEO that he has a concealed firearm on him.

IMHO I believe you are going past the scope of this thread and this forum with that question.

On that note, as much as I hate to do this, I will temporarily lock the thread pending review by moderators. I hope y'all understand that, as I think most will agree that the thread is extremely valuable in regards to all points raised throughout it but it is starting to reach end of life and I would rather lock it and retain in. This thread might get reopened at a later date pending review by the moderator's group.

Thanks all.
