I didn't realize when I posted my Story While Carrying, the thread was for MD experiences ONLY and apologize.

PS: Just received my Cruisin' for a Cure prostate/dre exam results back after being examined at the Costa Mesa Fairground on September 22, 07. The first time I attended this 3,000+ car show, I signed up for the prostate exam (sponsored by Jonsson Foundation UCLA/National Prostate Cancer Coalition) forgetting I was carrying my NAA .32 acp Guardian in a Kramer Below the Waistband holster. The good looking female Urologist (3rd year UCLA medical resident) eyes turned as big as saucers when she saw my package (holster/weapon) and I immediately told her I was licensed etc. I removed the package placing it on a small table (Motor Home rolling exams), obviously pointed away from her. She thanked me and continued with the not so pleasant exam etc. The following year, yup, she was back again only this time she asked what package I was carrying! We had a good laugh and was expecting her back this year but was informed she went into private practice in the LA area.

A young mail resident was her replacement thus when it was my exam turn, I informed him I was carrying a weapon. I think we took too long in the exam room because besides asking MD questions he asked me lots of questions about my Kahr PM 9 and my CCW process. As I was exiting the exam room, he said he looked forward to seeing me next year. Viewing a patient's weapon was a first for him!

Gimp - My dad had an OC CCW till he died in '03, of prostate cancer. A month later my maternal grandfather died of the same thing. My dad's father died of it in the early 60's.

If dad had gotten a DRE a couple of years earlier, he would have lived to see his grandkids, and there'd be one more CCW on Melissa's list today. Instead I have to transfer his guns to my name.

Women have spent the last 25 years getting over the ickiness of pap smears and mammograms, and a lot of them are alive because they did. We need to do the same.

My dad had surgery for prostate cancer in 1994. He's still around today because of that surgery, he had the surgery at a young age (I think he was 45 at the time), and luckily for us he made a habit of getting tested once a year after he turned 40.

If he hadn't got checked early and often, we would have lost him, like we lost my grandfather and will likely soon lose my uncle. I urge all of you guys to get your prostate checked annually in your efforts to stay above ground.

When I go to a medical doctor's office for one of my industrial medical appointments, I put my weapon in a fanny pack type holster. The staff all know that I carry, and several of the women medical assistants have asked as to the process on obtaining their CCW licenses and what kind of weapons that I would recommend for them. They think that my Colt 1911 is way too big for them.

I need to show them a 9mm Makarov, or a Browning model 1922 in .32 colt a.c.p. for a smaller hand. Those are the smallest handguns that I own.....

What would the doctor's office think if I came in with a case full of handguns, for the staff to look at???

I had this happen late last year.

I had to get an 'exam' and didn't forget I was carrying, just chose to not make a big fuss. I dropped trou, and made no mention of the metal in the IWB holster near my ankles. I kept a keen eye on it during the exam, then when instructed to re-trou, simply did. I made the normal adjustments to get everything right, etc. while doc was telling me about this and that. Doc made no mention of it at all. Haven't heard a peep about it either.

In my experience CCWing, if you don't make a big deal of it, nobody else will either. I have been 'made' by my doctor, dentist, chiropractor, and tailor amongst others. Actually, it was a good thing my tailor did make me because she suggested fitting my trousers differently now which actually HELP concealment and added tremendous comfort!

Being 'made' by a cop friend of mine was the funniest. I never tell anyone I CCW, but his trained eyes caught it one day as I was approaching him in front of a restaurant for lunch. He stood on my foot with all his weight (almost twice my weight) and frisked me right on the sidewalk! Just by feeling, he told me what I was carrying, and he was right! We laughed about it through lunch. He didn't care if I had a permit or not (I showed it to him), he just wanted to make me nervous in public, thought it was hilarious.... I almost pooped my pants I was so shook up! I think that is the only time my gun has been exposed in public on a busy street, and hopefully, the last!!!

Imagine what passing motorists thought was going on... Cop finds gun on guy in street clothes....

I'm a chiropractor in my town and last year an older gentleman went to one of our medical facilities and apparently did not like what he was told.
He went home, told his son he would not be back and went back to the facility and started shooting.

The end result was suicide by CHP who saw the assailants shotgun being drawn on him.

Moral of the story...carry in medical facilities.
It's also one of the reasons I applied.

Last November I had to piss in a cup for a new job. I went to the clinic, and before entering the sacred bathroom the technician read me the urine cup commandments (don’t flush the toilet, turn on the water, blah, blah, blah…), asked me to completely empty my pockets, and lift my shirt. I thought “Oh crap, busted! I’m sure as hell not going to leave my 1911 with this propeller head while go inside the bathroom.” I tossed my wallet, checkbook, passport, a couple of Benchmades, and keys into the holding tray. Her eyes bugged out when she saw the knives. I did a half ass job of lifting my shirt to my waistline, and positioned my hands to cover the firearm (3:00) and spare mag (9:00, horizontal carry) as best as the situation would allow. I’m not sure what she saw however she gave me the “good to go” nod. My next concern was that she was going to call the police while I was taking care of business. Good thing my bladder was ready to bust. I was in and out in a matter of seconds.

Similar experience,,I have Kaiser and my regular Dr has seen me with gun many times. I have gone to urgent care and was treated by a Dr of Indian decent. When she asked me to remove my shirt I told her I was LEO and she said ok...She wanted to know why I had to carry it to the Dr,,shw did not like it at all,,but so what.. I told her I carry 24/7 end of story.

I had a custom suit made once (and probably only once, due to the cost!) and was amazed at the attention to detail - the tailor even measured my wallet and keys to custom-make the pockets to fit everything perfectly!!

I don't know about fitting my keys, what if I have to add or remove something from the keychain?? Is there rabbit-foot capability? Seriously folks, does anyone have a custom suit with a sewn-in holster? That would be interesting...
