Default Another Hypothetical Scenario...

I know you guys don't like these, but my wife and I are debating on what to do in this situation...

We are walking down the street and three thugs block are path one of them shows a gun by lifting up his shirt (IWB) and says give me your watch and wallet. No one else is around and I am carrying...

I wholeheartedly agree.

Just curious - what other answers do you and your wife come up with? You draw your gun against somebody who a) already has his at the ready; b) outnumbers you; c) probably wouldn't hesitate to use it if he met any resistance in his demands for things that can be replaced?

Draw and fire at the one with the gun? What about his buddies? How do you know they're not armed, etc.

I know - we can all "what if" this to death and with each new assumption and fact supplied, answers might change.

Your use of deadly force would only be justified if you were in imminent danger of death or great bodily injury. With the limited facts you presented, IMHO, your best role is to be a phenomenal eyewitness - and alive to testify against them. Your watch and everything in your wallet can be replaced.

I agree, give up your watch and wallet. They can always be replaced. If they do nothing to justify escalation to a higher level of force, you and the wife can be good witnesses later.

Thanks,

The wife finally is starting to agree with me on this whole CCW thing after today mind you she was walking into her nail appt (in the OC bubble she thinks we live in) and the bank next door was shut down with all this commotion because an armed robbery took place 30 minutes before that...

Enough said.

I was going to post this comment yesterday but thought CCWI had stated it very clearly so I let it slide.

Let's take it one step further. The thug says, "What else do you got?"

oh boy.... IMHO sceenarios are hard to discuss because they often are very dependent on situational stuff. The demeanor of a thug, the proximity of help/other people, the mood/feel of a situation and so on. That's why there is no "scenario forum" here, but rather a place for folks to recount their experiences as those are more educational to look over IMHO then couch quarterbacking

I know you guys hate scenarios, but for us non LEO's who have not had sufficient training this site can realy assist us in situations. I know CCWI I need to take your course, but jeez it's far...

I guess at what point do you not let the thugs have control over the situation...

I'm not a LEO But here it goes: you never let the thug have control of the situation if you can help it. The fact that you hand over wallet is still your choice. The way I look at it is as follows: when I feel afraid for my life or those with me, I will act. Before then I will cooperate.

So most of you guys would hand over the wallet and watch?

I'm curious...how far would you allow this to go?

+1.

Three guys. Intent to do bodily harm. Brandishes his gun IWB. Sounds like I'm in fear for my life and my wife's.

Since this IS hypothetical, I'll say it:

- Multiple Bad Guys (Disparity of Force)
- Intent (yes - he showed you his gun)
- Opportunity (yes - he's within spitting distance)
- Ability (yes - he has a gun)
- Preclusion (no - he's too close, my wife is with me)

Sounds like you'd better be ready and well trained.

You wait too long standing there letting them consolidate their control and you don't move - You'll be paralyzed standing there while they take your wife. Or better yet, they flip through your wallet - find your CCW - then kill you and take your gun.

If you haven't made up your mind that you will act decisively when the "test" comes, you shouldn't be carrying.

All it is a heavy belt weight and you'll give up your gun to criminals.

Sorry guys, I think you hesitate against lethally armed thugs and you're dead or worse.
