70 Year Old Man Subdues Suspected Burglar
A Bakersfield grandfather took matters into his own hands, after discovering a burglar inside his home.
Seventy-year-old Raymond Michel came home with his wife, when she noticed a light on that she remembered turning off.
When Michel went upstairs, he took his .38 caliber pistol with him, and surprised the suspected burglar.
"He came around the door with the gun in his hand pointed at me, so I let it go," says Michel. "I shot at him."
But Michel missed 28-year-old John Garner.
When Garner fell on the floor, Michel pressed the gun against him, telling the suspected burglar not to move.
Garner says he's addicted to heroin, and originally wanted to take cans from the alley behind Michel's house.
In a jailhouse interview, he said a neighbor told him no one was home, and he broke in.
Garner says he deserves whatever he gets.
"I feel bad for what I've done, because he's an old man," says Garner. "I have a drug problem, a real bad drug problem."
Michel says he's been burglarized before, but isn't sure if he wants to put in a security system.
He and his wife, Dawn, have lived in this home on Ivan Avenue for 50 years.
