Default More CCW challenges

So CCW at work is an interesting situation. We go to different sites all the time and often have little warning where we're going to be. Sometimes I don't find out what's going on until after I leave the house.

CCW Fail #1: Turns out the second service call of the day is to a medical center. I'm riding as a passenger this time. No big deal...Until I get up the front door and note the newly installed metal detectors. "Crap! I have to go...unload my pocket knife. Gimme the car keys!" I then had to spend 10 minutes finding the car, since I didn't drive and didn't note the row number. Doh!

CCW Fail #2: Having had this experience, I elect to take my own car next time and arrive early to scope out a site we haven't been to before.

I get to the building early, and find out that the building doesn't have any unusual security. But the client also wants me to go to lunch with their guy. Looking around, the main restaurant area is inside a county museum, which may have a security checkpoint, and is possibly under the "no carry" rules for the adjoining L.A. County park. No big deal, I'll just lock it up in the car. I pull in, and disocover it's...mandatory valet. Absolutely nowhere discrete to do my thing, and I have to give the keys up. Yay. I ended up finding a pay lot nearby and parking there.

I went ahead and bought a pair of those lock boxes that secure with a cable. I think the company is called "Center of Mass." I upgrded to a Crossbreed Supertuck holster for both of my carry pieces. I can tuck my shirt in again and don't have to wear a jacket with the J-frame.

Things are slowly getting better.

Many of us here use the COM lock boxes. They're great products for those sudden need to unholster (not to be confused with sudden need to draw) events.

Shouldn't have to be such a pain should it? If I could ask, how do you like the supertuck with the J frame, which clips do you use on it? Thanks.

The supertuck is great. It's very comfortable and discrete with the Hogue Bantam grip.

The cylinder (being round and sharp) does scratch the leather half of the holster a bit, but no real problem. I'm using the kydex clips with this one. I'd say get both when you order. In fact, order extra clips of both types and replace the crappy clips on all of your other factory or homemade holsters with their stuff.

Don't want to hijack the thread, (mods please delete if inappropriate here) last question, have you tried the V-clips with the Velcro?

Your story would be funny.... if it wasn't so sad. Sometimes doing one's best to follow the rules can be really trying.

With a j-frame, any reason you don't pocket carry? Steel frame? I found pocket carry for the alloy j the best way by far. No worrys about tucking or leaving untucked, jacket or no, and easy to holster and unholster.

True. And unholstering, unloading your firearm and clearing the chamber, while in your car seat is not very safe. Unfortunately, we don't have much choice.

OMG!! What a PITA. I feel for you, brother. You are taking it pretty well, though. It's all about your attitude. You are determined to protect yourself at all costs, even with a world of inconveniences. I applaud your integrity and perseverance. Keep on carrying man, whatever it takes.
