Thumbs up Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield

I had an experience that I wanted to share with the members as well as inform some Kern County folks at the same time.

I had tickets last Friday night to go see the Bakersfield Condors ice hockey game at the Rabobank Arena. These facilities of course, are always located in downtown areas that are know to be a bit run down. Plus, I had a troubling experience a few years ago at a hockey game when a druggie type chick got all angry at me when she asked for a hand out, and I only offered her a dollar. She had this pimp/boyfriend looking character lurking in the shadows of my vehicle. The whole thing just made me feel very uneasy. Since I was taking my family Friday night, I wanted to carry. Not so much for the purpose of inside the arena during the game but, more for the walk to and from the parking areas. That seems to be where you might run a higher chance of running into trouble.

After sending our local resident SME El Gato a PM on his thoughts on the idea, I took my G23 packed in my TT Gunleather Uncle Mikes Special, and headed for the game. I knew if I had to...I could go back to the truck and lock up my pistol.

I saw no signage telling me "no firearms" or any city ordnance sighting otherwise which was what El Gato said I should most concerned about and look for. I wasn't "wanded" and, there were no metal detectors at the doors.

We had a great time and saw an awesome game with a Condors Victory! I would have to say if any members had any second thoughts about carrying inside the Rabobank arena during a Condors game...dont! Everything went as smooth as glass!

Thanks El Gato for your prompt reply and input! Having this forum available to ask questions is such a great tool to have. Thanks to the great folks that keep it up and running!!!

it’s a small world I had a good time watching the local hockey team here in Ontario play the Condors.
I am happy to say we had a good family time and our team (Regin) won.
The Ontario Arena had the same security as you were describing

Thanks for the info Gronk. I was thinking about taking the family to a Condor's game and was wondering about carrying there. I too have had an uncomfortable situation while leaving Rabobank late in the evening and being able to carry there will ease my nerves a little.

I have been to that arena for a concert. Just a FYI FAQ
The following items are not permitted: •Weapons of any kind (i.e. pepper spray, tear gas, handcuffs, stun guns, etc.)

Rabobank Arena has the same policy.

Years ago our local venue put up signs at the entrance, 'No weapons', the very day we attended a show (yes I checked before hand) and I was carrying my .38 with no where to leave it once we were there on a radio station concert bus.

My post referred mainly to the hockey games, I do know concerts are a different story. Especially rock and county concerts. Yes, when Korn plays Bakersfield there are metal detectors at the doors. However when I took the wife to see Neil Diamond last year there were no metal detectors. One thing I also failed to mention, they did take a glance inside my wifes purse as she passed through the door. But I think they were looking for machine guns or swords!

Just pointing it out that the policy is there. It does not say only applies to concerts it is a blanket policy.

Just an FYI. I was at a Condors game tonight and the signs above the doorway clearly said "No weapons of any kind." Maybe they're new or maybe you missed them. Either way, the signs were there tonight.

Prolly put them up for the Condors games, then take them down when the game is over.

And welcome sysninja.

did they cite a city ord?
interesting... I've never seen any....
now not that I look or care much... but am interested if they cite a city ord...or it's just a policy of the operators of the venue...I belive it's owned by the city...

Whether they have signs or not, it is irrelevant to a CCW holder in this state. Unless there is a law prohibiting weapons, a sign or policy is non-binding if you have a permit. If you were in Arizona...

I know some folks that work at The Arena and they have instructed me that it is the "policy" of the Arena that there are to be no firearms allowed inside.

Friend that works there says that they have gone so far as to ask off duty LEO's to disarm when wanding for events.
