Exclamation Magazine Popped Out...

I was carrying in San Francisco the other day at an event I was attending. When I got home in the east bay and secured my weapon, I noticed that the Magazine was partially ejected and could have slid out of my pistol in downtown SF which could have caused a bit of a situation...

I am positive the magazine was properly inserted when I left home that morning because I always check that before I put my gun on. What happened was that I am a lefty and I never moved the magazine release to the other side. So the release got bumped by the hard back of a chair instead of skin because my gun was set up for a right handed person.

I promptly looked up how to change the release to the other side and did it right away. No problems since. If there are any lefties out there, consider switching your release if you haven't already...you might get a nasty surprise if you don't.

This is somewhat common for lefties.... I'd suggest a simple check of the mag on a regular basis reminding myself that this is a telltale to people who know and might be looking to see if you are armed...
One of the officers who works for my dept. does this constantly...(punches his mag release)... he leans against the door post when exiting the car and punches the release on the glock...and that would be my guess as to when you did it... if you have a habit of leaning against the seat when exiting the vehicle...
Speaking as a right hander.. I carry a glock in a fancy safariland gizmo holster on duty... and check my mag regularly during the day... and check my ccw guns when putting them in the holster... not that I'm paranoid or anything...who said I was paranoid.. I deny it...a nasty rumor is all that is...I'm not paranoid... I'm not not not not... and even if I am ... it doesn't mean magazines don't fall out...

I'm a lefty, and have had my magazine release switched, and I'm glad I did.

HOWEVER, keep in mind; One of the principles of armed combat is that you want to be able to shoot whatever you can find -- know at some level how to make just about anything that goes boom go boom. Being in the habit of having the magazine release "where it should be -- neener, neener" can be a problem if you have to switch to another platform.

I carry a P239 in 9mm. I once borrowed a friend's P239, in .357 Sig. Everything went fine (sweet, and what a boom!) until I went to switch magazines.

Drop!

DROOOP!!!
