Default First Interaction with SBCSO deputy

One of my staff misdialed a 912 exchange - guess what she dialed instead?

Of course a deputy was dispatched, it was after official hours and I was expecting him. I met him at the door and identified myself, presented my DL & permit, and advised that I have a CCW and am armed. He asked me if I was the security guard? We took a walk through the building, verified that all was well and off he went.

Overall, "nothing to see here" - just what I wanted to hear.

We get people at my office dialing 911 all of the time and guess what they do when they hear "911, what's your emergency?" That's right, they hang up instead of saying oops wrong number. The PD has done a walk through of our office a few times, during business hours. Going to every single office and desk.

Our HR dept sent out the comm center phone number to the PD. That way, that person can call them and tell them everything is okay so an officer isn't sent. I can't say if that has worked, but our 911 calls have dropped off. Although that might have been attributed to our tracking system in our new phone system.

The Cisco IP Phone systems that I work with route any calls to the 911 PSAP directly back to the initiator of the call if the caller hangs up or is disconnected for any reason.

We can also provide a granularity in our reporting to the PSAP that could identify the street address>building>floor>room and even cubicle or location within a room. This is done through direct updates to the ALI database from our system.

Sorry.... geeked out for a minute.. Cool stuff though.

Oh, the highlight of this event occured 30 minutes later when we called 911 for our last patient - had to be transported to the hospital emergency department. I guess my staff member was just being a bit anticipatory with her first call.
