Carried for my first time in Disneyland
Well this past week I carried for my very first time in Disneyland. Went down and met up with my sisters family to take my niece to Disneyland for her second birthday. I doubt she will remember a lot of it, but she had a lot of fun.
Carried IWB in my Kholster at about 3:15. Went just fine with no problems at all. I had my camera bag, so they of coarse wanted to see inside it, so I gladly opened it up to let them peek inside as I walked in. I had considered wearing my ankle holster, but when I thought about all the walking we were going to be doing all over the place, I realized I probably did not want it rubbing back and forth with every step I took. So IWB was perfectly comfortable.
Generally, the type of people that are going to be going to someplace like Disneyland, are not the type of people you have to worry about doing you bodily harm. So it's not like I feel any need whatsoever to have my gun on me there for that purpose. The fact is, you just never know, and I am of the opinion that if you are going to carry, you should carry EVERYWHERE that you legally can. I'm not open for discussion on whether I should have or not, and all the nonsense about them being private property and having the right to request me not to carry there, and then the whole trespassing thing. I don't want to hear it. I'm well aware of all of that.
I have flown with my guns on Southwest many many times now. I've just about got enough of those southwest firearm declaration cards, I could build a card castle with them. I try to keep every one, but now I have lost track of where they all went. But anyway, my point is that I am by no means new to carrying and declaring a gun on Southwest. Well, we flew out of the Sacramento airport. Got up to the ticket counter and told the lady I had a firearm that I needed to declare. Normally I am surprised at how calm and unphased the ticket agent is when I say that. But this one was acting a little inexperienced with it. She had me fill out the card, and this is the weird part. She had me unlock the case, but leave it closed because she said she had to take it in back to let the TSA look at it and they would re-lock it. Having done this so many times, I know that is not their typical procedure. The ticket agent is always the one who has me open the case, so she can look at the gun and verify that it is not loaded. It is never an issue, and goes really quickly. I was very nervous letting her take my bag out of my sight, with my gun case unlocked. And on top of that, she was gone for about 10 minutes while me and my parents were left standing there wondering what the heck was going on. Finally she came back out without my bag, and said "Okay, everything was good and it's locked back up" and she gave us our stubs for our checked baggage. It was really od, and I did not like it one bit.
The flight home through John Wayne Orange County airport was just fine, and just like normal. The ticket agent just looked at the gun herself and then she taped the declaration card to the outside of the case which was different because they usually put them inside with the gun. Taping it to the outside has always made more sense to me, because that way no one has to cut the locks off your box to find out you did indeed declare it. But at the same time it is illegal for the airlines to mark your baggage as containing a firearm, so as long as your bag stays closed all should be fine.
But yeah, just thought I would share that experience at the Sacramento airport. It turned out to not be an issue at all, and I was happy to see that my gun was still in there when I got to Orange County. It just made me very nervous for my bag to go back there out of my sight with my gun case unlocked having flown so many times with my guns, that I know that is not the way they normally do it.
We had a good fun trip. Did some swimming in the ocean at Dana Point as well. But glad to be back up here in the mountains:-)
