Sounds like a Murphy's Law kinda trip. Hope the kids didn't spook for the future rides. Glad all turned out well even if it did cost an arm and a leg for the afternoon/evening of fun.

Glad all is safe.

I think helmet laws are stupid. But being an ATV enthusiast, I think it's stupid not to wear one.

On my land, my kids ride with me all the time. On public land, I obey the laws. One rider per vehicle.

I, like the rest of us donate X amount of dollars every month, bi-monthly annual etc to different non-profit groups such as NRA, BlueRibbon, CORVA etc etc . . . . . . . . . . . .

Some part of me, tells me, that the above groups are breakin' it off in our arses. But, we do need representation on a legal level and these specific groups are on our side, . . I hope??

With that said, I think that it's in our best interest to follow the law and obey it. I agree, whole hearted that we have too many LAWS that protect others and ourselves- from ourselves.

However, we can't keep running against the grain. You can catch more flies with honey than vinigor and I hope that you will do the same for yourself and us in the future.

Jason

Yes, there are quite a few hams here.

For what that trip cost Kingpin, he coulda had another Alinco!

I had to skip Field Day this year. Big disappointment, but ya can't do everything.

Default Field Day and Murphy's Law!!!!!

Ah Murphy's law and Field Day.. Glad that the Forest Service LEO, just gave you a warning!!!!!

I was smart and stayed home. As an Advanced Class Amateur Radio Operator of more than 32+ years in ham radio, I have done way too many Field Day operations out in the boonies... I did my operating this year as class 1C (mobile) out of my 1967 Ford Pick-up on the lower landing. It has call sign license plates, dual batteries, and several 3/8" X 24 t.p.i. antenna mounts... I was on 75, 40, 20, and 15 meters HF SSB phone and CW/ plus a couple of 6 meter SSB contacts.

Since I was here on the property at 1,800 feet in elevation, I did have a rifle chambered .30-06 springfield with me (in the rifle rack in the rear window)since the bears and mountain lions have been around recently. That and my CZ-52 in 7.62X25mm Tokarev in a shoulder holster..

SierraNevadaCCW, why didn't you use your Alinco 2 meter HT to call for assistance for the stranded motorist???

Here in Six Rivers National Forest, I know most of the local long time Law Enforcement Officers from working out of the Supervisor's Office years ago.. It is the State Park Rangers (at Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park) that I have had to explain things to in the past. I was stopped along the old highway (101) watching the Elk, and one of them was checking out the tourists. I got "the look", when I informed them of my carrying. But luckily I know the head ranger there, from having worked at the old Prairie Creek Fish Hatchery years ago, and at a fish trapping/ rearing site located inside the park..

The motorist had a cell phone and he was on it when I stopped. At that particular spot, cell service was available.

I may have posted this on another thread....but since Jason brought up helmets and public lands...here is some video of me wearing a helmet and helmet cam on the roads where we were on the quad Saturday night. YouTube - Memorial Day Ride

Now imagine it's pitch dark and your there.

That is so true! We did our field day way up on the top of a mountain. Forgot the coax and sleeping bags (though had blankets and twisted-pair wire!). One of the flashlights broke, but now home it works fine. And, the flynet tent is broken and needs to be repaired. Yep, that's how it goes!

I lasted about 12 hours on the radio, not counting the 4 hour set-up and 1-hour tear-down.
