Whatever you do, do NOT follow that link. You will be unable to forget it if you do.

Will Rogers said, "There's three kinds of people.
There's them that can learn from others,
There's them that can learn from books,
And there's them that has to whiz on the electric fence for themselves."
I prefer to be one of the first two kind and to learn from others' mistakes.

"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb deciding what to have for dinner. Freedom is a well armed lamb."

I was just about to go bring him in when I heard the unmistakable yelp of an animal fearing for its life. As we've had some coyote sightings in our neighborhood lately (and just found out that another CalCCW member that lives in the same neighborhood lost his cat coyotes a few months ago), I knew instantly what the threat was.

In a single (impressive) motion, I jumped off my bed grabbing my 1911 .45 which was right next to me in a drawer, and raced for the back door thinking I wouldn't be in time - but luckily I made it there as the coyote was about 3 feet from the sliding glass door. The F'er stood his ground even as he clearly saw me barreling towards him the last 15 feet before I got to the back door, and didn't back down until I banged my hand on the glass door as soon as I got to it - luckily for him he turned tail and cleared the block wall right as I opened the door letting my terrified puppy race back in the house.

Amazingly, I don't think the coyote did anything more than mouth him. Couldn't find any broken skin, but we'll take him to the vet tomorrow to make sure. I think he has a new outlook on life, and knows damn well I saved his ass tonight!

I know we live in their hunting ground, but the coyotes are getting out of hand here, even wandering the streets during the daytime - enough to prompt advisories from the PD and make the local news. Both PD and animal control responded and were pretty interested to hear about the encounter.
We live on a bluff overlooking a large wash which is a pipeline for varmints we've had a young mtn lion on the back hill, bobcats, foxes, coyotes, skunks, opossums in our yard.I purchased subsonic CCI 22 short & long CB ammo because it doesn't have a loud report I can fire them in a Remington Nylon Model 11 bolt action 22 or a couple of 22 handguns. In addition I have pellet rifles and a slingshot.
