Thanks to Kappy for the following information.
All of the basic information is available here: Sutter Sheriff Department (Sutter County Sheriff - Concealed Weapon Permits) Until recently, the office was only running a few applicants per day, but due to a backlog they're pumping through a lot of them very quickly. My interview was only about fifteen minutes. The sheriff is very pro-CCW and the staff are very helpful. You'll want to pick a CCW instructor, take your class, get your certificate of qualification, then go make your appointment with the sheriff's office. There are several services which can help you get your CCW, including the local gun club, and the sheriff's office has a list of everyone qualified. According to their office, certificates are good for up to two months. Prior to your appointment, they'll probably want you to bring in your certificate and let them copy a few pages out of your app (for your background check). Don't work too hard on GC. Mine was two words. "Self Defense." After your interview, they'll do your fingerprints. Turnaround varies. Mine took exactly a week. On the seventh day, I received a call that my CCW was ready.
