Curious. Has anyone ever flown with a carry on that had a Surefire E2D in it? Got me thinking tonight as I walked through the parking lot at Ontario airport at 11PM. Made me think what a great place to assualt someone. As I traveled this trip with carry on only I did not have my tac knife with me. So I was down to my flashlight as I walked through the parking lot.

Thought the E2D is better than nothing. But agian wondered if it would be flagged by TSA.

I think this might fall under the category of "Martial Arts/Self Defense Items" listed on their banned items - http://www.tsa.gov/assets/pdf/Prohib...ly_3-16-07.pdf

I'm curious about this too, since I travel a lot. I haven't tried to bring it in carry-on, because I don't want it to get taken from me. I sent an email to TSA to get some clarification.

Yeah I would not want a $100 flashlight being taken. The other problem is what might fly in one airport might not in another. They aren't always consistent as you know.

Sorry for the hijack of the thread. Should have started a new one.

I just received a response back from TSA. Wow, they are quick on the weekends.

Thank you for your e-mail.

The Transportation Security Administration's current security screening procedures require all carry-on luggage and accessible property be screened before passengers take them onboard an aircraft. Regardless of whether an item is on the prohibited or permitted items list, the Transportation Security Officers (TSO's) have discretion to prohibit an individual from carrying an item through the screening checkpoint or onboard an aircraft if the item poses a security threat.

Therefore, TSA security screening personnel make the final decision on whether to permit items like a NAME OF ITEM into the sterile area of the airport. Should you need additional assistance, feel free to contact us at toll free 866-289-9673.

Please visit our website at www.tsa.gov for additional information about TSA. We continue to add new information and encourage you to check the website frequently for updated information.

We hope this information is helpful.

So I guess the answer is, it's up to the individual screener on whether or not they want to steal my light!

I flew to Europe with a E2E in a backpack and had no trouble via US, Germany, Venice and Barcelona airports.

I'm currently without CCW but ALWAYS with a flashlight!

My EDC flashlight is a Lionheart with 3W Luxeon LED and 1200mAh Pila battery by 'Mr. Bulk' (If you're not a flashlight geek you're not likely to know this one). I was especially tickled by the serial number I got (random, but certainly fitting!).

More info on this light...

I have a G2 in a homemade horsehide scabbard that I carry everyday, and a spare pair of batteries in an old change purse in my pocket.

i usually have my E2D with me but my reasons for carrying it goes beyond personal protection. I'm a computer geek and it's handy when wiring or hooking things up.

However, before the time change. I always had my E2D in my left hand when going to my car after work. I always imagined the Police Report if some guy was unarmed and hiding behind my car. "Ma'am, can you describe the attacker?" "Yes Sir, he's the guy with 5 indentations in his forehead. See the stike bezel on my flashlight."

In my car i always keep my many D-Cell MagLight Club, uhm, I mean Flashlight.
