Default Are recoil reducers ok for a carry gun?

Does anybody know if the double spring type recoil reducer....the springco type that replaces the factory spring guide is ok to have on your carry pistol? I have them in all my Sigs and wanted to know before I get them approved by the armory later on during my application process. Please advise. Thanks.

Ed,

Per Dwayne at the armoury. Triggers below 4 Lbs. and lasers are the only two No No's.

So, if I get a j-frame and bob the hammer, that would be ok?

I have a S&W m37 airweight and had the hammer bobbed by a gunsmith. Armory said it was no problem at all.

Thanks. I would assume that it's a good idea to get all the work I need to do to any of the carry guns now, before the inspection, rather than after. Or does it matter as along as the trigger weight does not fall below 4 lbs and there aren't any lasers or laser grips installed? Please advise. Thanks.

Yes, Do it before inspection. You do not want to have it approved one way and carry it another way.

Is the 4 pound limit an Orange County thing or is it state wide?

Orange County. Some counties do not inspect the firearms. Some you don't even need to shoot.

Caveat emptor

A modified gun is a DA's jury delight. Think hard about having one on your permit.

Why not just get one with an enclosed hammer?

Because the enclosed and internal hamers have differnt parts in them. You do not get a smooth trigger pull with those compared to a external hamer.

Makes sense.

I just not super concerned with having a wilson type trigger pull on a backup. I'm more concerned with snagging something on an external hammer or whats left of it when pulling it out of my pocket.

That happened to a gunsmith who worked on some of my guns. He tried to draw but the hammer snagged inside his pocket. Luckily the badguy "made" his gun through his jacket and dropped the pipe he was about to attack with and ran away, but it could've turned out much worse.

The 'bodyguard' type shrouded hammer is a reasonable way to split the difference - it's an external hammer, but it's covered so it can't snag. It's hard to thumb it back, but it's possible, if you need to.

That's the j-frame I use, the trigger pull is pretty smooth. It's also pretty ugly though.
