Pockets are great for some loose change, a wallet, but terrible for guns--I am surprised that a gunsmith was not using a holster, glad it worked out OK, but thats just a dangerous place to carry, IMHO.

Pockets are fine, so long as you have a pocket holster that covers the trigger guard like this:
