Thumbs down GunVault Mini Failed again.

I have the GunVault Mini on my nightstand. A few years back, the door release mechanism broke. When I entered the code, it made a zipping noise and the door didn't pop open. I was mad about it, but GunVault agreed to fix it free of charge and made an excuse about a now-fired tech not crimping something right.

Fast forward to now. It's been about 2 years. Same thing happened this afternoon. Zipping noise and I had to go find my key to get in.

What if this happens in the middle of the night when I need my gun? I'm going to flip on a light, look for my keys, find the one, insert it ... ? Come on.

This isn't a quality product. That door release mechanism should last 20 or 30 years without trouble, not 2 years after buying it and then 2 years after the factory "fixes" it.

The design is great. The finger grooves are nice. The cable attachment is decent. But let's face it, the safe has a service life of 2 years.

Heck the AA batteries lasted longer then the mechanism they power. They're regular no-frills batteries from Walmart.

Have you considered one of those safes that have the 5 buttons you push and then twist to open? Granted, its not a fancy safe, but it works very well and never needs batteries. The maker even has hardware to mount it to any surface if you choose to.

V-Line Top Draw

they have a lot of other safes to consider too. Just a suggestion.

You should get one of those push-button V-Line safes, really well made and no batteries needed!

Not sure if anyone else mentioned this or not, but you might want to try one of these, the V-Line.

In my opinion, I think SN might be keeping his safe too clean. I store mine under the bed with the dusty bunnies and my cat who likes to sleep under there. Never had any issues.

OUCH... Okay okay...but that safe you guys are pounding me in the head with is so...uhm, ugly. And no grooves for reaching in the dark. Plus you have to find little push buttons in the dark and then twist a knob? How's that work at 4am with someone beating the door in? And that ugly safe won't fit between my cigar humidor and bed post.

Here is how it works at 4am

At 11pm, before I go to bed, I push the buttons and twist the knob, unlocking the safe, and open it up for the night. (I keep my gun inside a holster while in there, so that the cat doesn't shoot the dogs).
At 4 am, I shoot ne'er do weller
at 7 am, when I wake up, I close the safe and twist the knob.

In my house it's like this if I did what you do:

At 11pm, before I go to bed - I push the buttons and twist the knob, unlocking the safe and opening it up for the night.

At 12am, my 5 year old daughter sleepwalks to the safe and takes hold of the gun.

At 12:01am, she kills me in my sleep.

At 4am the cops are scratching their heads with confusion and tracking dirt into my house.

At 6am, the medical examiner removes my dead corpse from the bedroom.

At 12noon, my wife is arrested for one of California's child accessing a gun laws.

At 12:01 my kids are put in foster care.

And within a few months my house is auctioned off to an Iranian family who paint the interior an off pink and kill everything green in my yard.

That's funny that you should mention an Iranian family... you could just use the Iraqi Wedding excuse instead!

LOL! funny, pink house! seriously, ignore these old farts who do not have kids in their houses--the buttons are easy to press, even in the dark, you can set your own combination--if you have kids, keep it locked, just a quick press and flick it is open, actually easier than that electronic lock, and very secure.

My kids are pretty well educated about gun safety, but I would NEVER leave a loaded gun around.
